Guerlain Loose Kohls

When I catch onto a fad, I don’t do things by halves. After seeing the great reviews of Guerlain Loose Kohls, I purchased a few colours:

We have Noir – Black
Brun – er, Brown, quite a warm toned one
Bleu – Blue, almost a aqua teal shade.

Limited Shades –

Oriental Bronze – A cool greeny khaki, verrrryy purdy.

Oriental Metal – Another coolish taupey colour.

Swatches:

The swatch doesn’t show the glittery, shimmery quality of the colours.

The jar is cute (and you only get 1g of the product!!! 1g!), and the applicator is like a stick. How do you use it? you need to use the end of the stick to dot the colour around your eyes.

The Eastern Way – Place the applicator at the inside corner of the eyes and with the eye closed, glide the applicator across the lower eyelid (so with your eye closed pull the stick across, obviously be careful!).

The Western Way – Apply as a fine line around the eye, for a precise line.

The Western method, methinks, will take a lot longer but look sharper. The Eastern way is a bit more dangerous but leave you with a smudgy, sexy bond girl effect and its much quicker of course. Just don’t do it in the car, and beware of dropping too much product on the side – it probably costs more than cocaine.

BTW the lasting power is great and even though I definately got some product in my eyes it didn’t irritate (whereas Pigments will) so I guess thats why this product is so expensive.

But I like it! It adds a bit of faux class, a bit like a perma tanned blonde in a juicy couture tracksuit who has to get the bus home.

I’ve been eying these for quite some time now; I’m really glad you did a review!

I tried to test the Oriental Metal and the Blue on my hand at Bloomingdales last week, but the SAs at the other makeup counters were giving me the stink-eye, so I quickly left.

It’s good to know it’s not irritating, that’s always a big concern for me. Do you wear contacts as well?

i’ve been curious about that eastern method of application…i would buy one to try out if only it were cheaper!

  3. Hey Blu

They are expensive, aren’t they for 1g?!?!?! Madness. I bet you could do something similar with piggies.

I know Guerlain SA’s are like stuck in the ages where I’m from. They have the most incredible lipliner on.

I don’t wear contact but I do have really watery and sensitive eyes, last time I went to the eye hospital the doc was like – tut tut no more eyeshadow. Hmph. And here I am poking my eye out with a stick and loose powder!

Hi, I was wondering are these smudgeproof because i have oily lids :/

    Thanks!

Well, as long as they don’t irritate it’s all good, I suppose. And yes, MAC pigments irritate like a mofo; I’m still not sure what they put in those things!

It’s good to hear that these things have a great lasting power. Provided the stick applicator doesn’t cause powder to fall everywhere, I’m sold!

  7. HI Anonomouse –

Yes, they do smudge a little, I got to be honest, when you apply to the top lid. I think thats part of the sexy, smouldering look but yes, It will smudge :)

Can you get a SA to put some on for you? Altho it hasnt irritated my eyes, its almost inevitable you get a bit of it in your eye since you run the stick across the base and blink. It didnt make my eyes run at all, but there was definately a chunk of powder on my iris. I say go and test it out to be sure. Or just go to the counter and stick it in your eye, see what the snotty SA’s think then!

Personally, I’d like to stick that applicator into those snotty SA’s eyes, I’m so sick of them. An eye liner for an eye liner and the whole world is blind, bwahahaha!

    No seriously, they deserve it.
