Giving Extra to Someone Special

Christmas may have passed but the presents are still strewn everywhere!  I love gifting people but of course it’s nice to get the odd pressie too.  Before Christmas, the Halifax bank offered some bloggers £50 voucher to buy something for someone special in their lives.  I of course chose my darling Baby H, and picked this wooden workbench made by Pintoy (who make some really lovely quality wooden toys) for £59.99, making up the difference.

Baby H is very fortunate and has many books and toys and lovely things, although I became aware of just how much we can accumulate for our children when really they only really need the most basic of things and most of all, their parents undivided time and attention.  I decided to buy something that is long lasting (hence wooden) that would be fun, challenging, educational but something that we could both play with. There are some really cute little kitchens out there but I do find some are a bit girly and also, I don’t want him to spend his play time pretending to fry eggs, so this building set is perfect (I haven’t got my own photo yet as it is quite big so we are trying to find the best spot for it in the house!).

It also comes with wooden tools, nuts and bolts, a saw etc and everything is nicely rounded off so no splinters because he does love to chew everything.

This is one of the few work benches for kids that is suitable for age 2 upwards (most have small plastic pieces so are for kids 4 upwards).  H is only 15 months but he is advanced and already plays with toys for kids aged 2-3 with no problems.

I love these kinds of building games, like his father, he seems to enjoy exploring things, building things and seems to understand that things need to be put together…and taken apart.  My little architect in training?

What was your favourite gift you gave this year?
