You can never have enough lipsticks – SAYS ME.
Currently, I am loving matte textures (because they don’t transfer on to my rugrats) that aren’t drying and in super bright colours – why? See, I am obsessed with K-Dramas at the moment and the hot look over there that nearly every single girl sports is a ombre bright lip (worn full on in the centre of the lips fading out for a more subtle look) with natural cheeks and eyes. It’s a cool look, because the bright lip makes the face look more alive and interesting, but it is worn subtly so the whole thing doesn’t look too ‘try hard’.
Having said that, I don’t always do a ombre lip – I still like a full on bright lip and natural everything else – I think it’s less work than doing the eyes, really!
Here is my current bright red love – Estee Lauder’s Pure Color Envy Matte in Volatile.
This is my second Estee Lauder Pure Color Envy Matte – it’s a lovely lipstick because the packaging is heavy and chic – the texture is creamy and soft and none drying, and the colours are true. The colour range apart from a nude are all quite strong shades and bright – I think if you’re going to do matte (which is quite a statement look) you might as way go hard or go home.
Volatile is a bright true orange-y red. It doesn’t even look as bright in the tube as it does on the lips where it seems to make me look more tanned and awake.
Here is one swipe on my hand – it is extremely pigmented and creamy. Once dry, it stains the lips making it very long lasting. I applied it from the tube but if you want something neater, use a brush. I would pair this with a light peach to do an ombre lip.
Another issue with mattes is when it settles in to fine lines – I didn’t find that this happened with this formula at all. My lips do not naturally like mattes, it REALLY does not, but it gets on happily with these Pure Color Envy Mattes.
Here is the lipstick on my skintone (NC35). I really like it! It doesn’t feel like a full red to me (which scares me a little), it feels more youthful and playful like a bright orangey-reddy-firey shade. I also have to do nothing else on my face with this because it does all the work. Now I really want more shades in this fab formula – Neon Azalea is a super hot pink that the Korean ladies love so much, and Stronger, which is a rich deep fun looking grape that looks like it would be amazing for Autumn and Winter.
At £25 I think these are reasonable for a high end luxury lipstick (I’ve seen so many lipsticks for £35+ lately, what is that about!?). It will last you for-ever!
