I am all for a new lash mascara/primer/base. I have tried many many many and more often than not I am disappointed. The best lash primer of all time was Shiseido’s – so they went ahead and CHANGED THE FORMULA because that makes sense.
Anyway. Estee Lauder recently released an innovative product called the Little Black Primer – it isn’t strictly just a primer though. It serves a few possible functions:
1. As a tint. Colours lashes black and lasts all day (so quite a natural finish, good for people who don’t like OTT lashes or younger wearers of mascara).
2. As a primer. To fix the lashes, to add volume and definition.
3. As a fixer. Over mascara to make it long wearing and water resistant.
Now I like all of those possible functions – it’s actually quite useful to have because a natural finish, long wearing, curl holding mascara is useful for a busy mama like me.
Here is the mascara and the brush which is slim and has a slight curve to it. It fits my shorter straight lashes well without going everywhere.
I guess whether you find this product useful or not depends on how much you like lashes – I do love lashes. I don’t have TIME any more to do more than one quick coat of mascara – I found this product useful for adding some definition and unlike my Japanese mascaras, it isn’t impossible to remove at the end of the day and no, it doesn’t smudge.
As a primer – well yes, it works pretty well! I have tried many bases which are useless at holding curl for lashes like mine (I am looking at you, Dior, MAC, Stila, etc etc etc etc). In fact, until now, I had conceded that western branded lash primers are useless at holding curl for Asian lashes – they thicken and add length yes, but I would rather have lashes that are curly than were thick but…flaccid. What use is something thick but flaccid, right!?
Anyway, pleased to report Estee Lauder’s Little Black Primer DOES hold curl. I used it with a sample of the Estee Lauder Sumptuous mascara, which is a traditionally a thick, rich mascara better suited to long, curly lashes, and my lashes held!
The tint alone:
The tint and mascara –
This is a clever little primer and I think it would be useful for people who want to change their mascara into one that can hold curl, or want to add oomph to their existing mascara, or like their mascara but want to prevent it from running etc etc. Sometimes a mascara is almost perfect but could do with a slight added ingredient and this is what the Little Black Primer is good for. For me, it’s another added step that I don’t have time for every day BUT, it’s good for proper days out and it means I can use it with other mascaras in my collection that make my lashes flop.
