Dolce & Gabbana’s Perfume for Babies – But do babies need perfume?

Dolce & Gabbana are releasing a scent for babies! The unisex fragrance is 50ml and costs £28.  The cologne is alcohol free, smells of citrus, melon and honey.

They say the scent is reminiscent of, “The softness of baby skin, the freshness of baby breath, a mother’s sweet hug, the first smile… and other tender moments have been the source of inspiration.”

Hmm, so what do you make of this?

I have to say, not very long ago I saw another mama tweeting pictures of various baby perfumes and was a bit surprised – just because it seemed like another unnecessary item for parents AND I can’t think of anything worse then going in to sniff a baby then getting a whiff of something artificial instead.

As a mama, I can say that babies smell AMAZING all on their own. Even when they are slightly stinky, they smell good – it must be a biological thing.  Even babies poop (well, my babies poop) smells like butter!   (Seriously though, if your baby truly smells slightly mouldy,  see a doctor, it could be something else…)

Now, in their defence, some other brands already have fragrances for babies; Burberry have a scent called Baby Touch, Mon Bebe has a ‘scented water’, Bulgari has a scent called Petits et Mamans etc…it’s nothing new really.  Also you could say that all the scent in baby products (bath, moisturisers etc.) ‘fragrances’ a baby!?  Although, I tend to go for unfragranced wherever possible.

Now that Baby H is a little older I have decided to go with Burts Bees skincare (all apart from his bum cream, which is good old Sudocrem), and BB does have a distinctive scent, but the products are Organic so I think the good outweighs the bad, I think.

Dolce Gabbana Perfume Baby

Would you buy this for yourself, your baby or indeed as a gift for a mama to be?

I’m not a mum, but babies smell gorgeous (apart from what comes out of their bums!) That baby powder-y whiff and clean baby head smell is lovely and if I had a gorgeous nipper, I wouldn’t mess with that. I thought perfume for dogs was bad enough, but this takes the biscuit! xx

So so so against this. I was in Zara yesterday buying some kids clothing and at the til they had perfume for children which horrified me. Apart from the fact that babies smell lovely I just can’t help thinking that stuff like this is why children these days have so many allergies. All these chemicals are reacting with eachother to cause who knows what. Babies do not need perfume full stop.

      Hi Lynda

No it’s not my thing either – even for Children I think it’s inappropiate seeing as they don’t really NEED any kind of scent adjustment at that age!!! It’s so ridiculous that anyone would use this on their baby
