Chanel Perfection Lumiere Foundation and Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder Review

When it comes to feeling like you’ve had a luxurious make up treat, there’s nothing quite like a bit of Chanel to perk up the day.  When I saw their newest powder, Les Beiges, fronted by Gisele, I squealed a bit because I love base products and the new nifty compact is oh so chic.

I also took this opportunity to try their new Perfection Lumiere Long Wear Flawless Make Up Foundation.

Perfection Lumiere Long Wear Flawless Fluid Sunscreen Make Up (sounds like an eBay title with as many keywords as possible) comes in an impressive 20 shades and is a medium to full coverage base.

They say:

Effortless to apply, with seamless blendability for a naturally flawless effect, this breakthrough foundation is the ideal all-day, everyday formula.

In truth, I haven’t always got on with Chanel foundations, even though I keep on trying them because I love the Chanel brand.

A selection of Chanel bases reviews  for example the matte powder, Asia exclusive White Essentiel Fluid Foundation, the one I really didn’t like Pro Lumiere and the one I still regularly use Vitalumiere Cream.

Perfection Lumiere is a rich creamy liquid texture that blends into the skin beautifully and with no effort – the skin is semi matte but glowy and it covers imperfections wonderfully.  I chose shade 40 as I am usually a 30 or 40 in my Chanel and this time it matches really well without too much yellow too.

An issue I had with the previous ‘lumiere’ was how the base bunched up on my skin when it got slightly oily.  I have to say, this DID happen again on my forehead (and I am by no means super oily) but when I powdered with the Les Beiges, this improved the finish and durability significantly.

I am fast developing a real soft spot for this foundation. It leaves me with an even sophisticated finish with minimal work.  It calls itself an every day foundation – I certainly would use this every day if I were going to work, BUT as a stay at home mama, I prefer something even lighter than this like a liquid or tinted moisturiser.

Even so, this is my favourite Chanel liquid foundation in a while.  I am not sure how well this would work on oily skin though as I found it faded on the oilier parts of my face.

Les Beiges Healthy Glow Sheer Powder SPF15 – Shade 30

The fine, lightweight and antioxidant powder shields the skin from environmental stress and sunlight thanks to its SPF 15 / PA++ sun filter. Its ultra-protective formula, enriched with cotton flower and white rose plant cells, becomes one with the skin. It is gentle on all skin types, even the most sensitive.

Les Beiges comes in this gorgeous compact with a beige coloured lid.  The beige is apparently a shade that Gabrielle Chanel loved (notice her classic bags always feature black and beige?!)  It also has a large mirror and a ‘larger inclination angle’ (meaning you can bend the lid back even more for flexibility – actually quite useful) and a half moon natural hair brush which is really good for a light dusting.

In other words – this is Chanel and the little details matter.

30 is a nice match to my skintone. I really dislike face powders that are too dark because in the wrong light they make me look like I am trying really hard to look tanned or orange. Nay. I am happy with a brighter powder to set my make up.

This powder doesn’t offer a ton of coverage, nor was it supposed to. Instead it sets foundation and adds a very sheer healthy glow to the skin – not quite bronzer, just a warm glow.I think it does indeed leave my skin with a bit of extra radiance and ever so slight coverage (as in toning down redness).  Those of you with lush skin could just use a bit of this powder to get rid of shine and add some glow.

The brush fits the dome of the powder perfectly, and the powder is quite loose so beware of not using too much needlessly.

Overall, I think these two work well together.

I really like the Perfection Lumiere base – it seems to look good on my dry skin and even better when set with Les Beiges sheer powder. It’s a matt-er version of Dior Nude (liquid) which is one of my all time favourites. Without the powder the foundation needs some help making it not do the weird bunching up thing. The powder is lovely but for me on its own doesn’t offer enough coverage. It controls shine well on me but I am more dry than oily.

Here is my skin when using both of these products – the finish is flawless and quite effortless to get to:

Verdict: These products are pricey but really nice particularly if used together.I like both items and will definitely use them regularly.  Check out Chanel at Debenhams (collect beauty points!).
