My fellow hot pink lip stick lovers; you must’ve heard of MAC’s gorgeous matte pink lipstick, Candy Yum Yum. The shade was once a Limited Edition colour, then brought back by MAC due to demand and is now permanent. It is a matte finish lipstick. Before it was widely available though, (or should I say Permanently available) people were looking for dupes everywhere. EVERYWHERE! During this time I located a Milani Lipstick in Rose Hip which was supposed to be a close dupe.
When Candy Yum Yum became permanent I bought it anyway and now I have both! So here comes the comparison!
The Milani Lipstick is from the ‘Colour Statement’ range and I bought it from eBay as the brand is not sold in the UK. I only paid about £6 for it delivered.
The packaging has changed since I bought this one, it is trendier now! Otherwise, it comes in a cheap looking ugly case, like something my mother’s auntie would use.
However, the lipstick does come with this cool cut diamondy-patten which serves no purpose but looks nice, and the lipstick contains vitamins and is paraben free. It is a creamy finish lipstick.
Candy Yum Yum comes in a MAC lipstick tube because er, it’s by MAC. I love the MAC packaging, it never gets boring for me, maybe because it’s solidly made and yeah…I just like their lipstick packaging. It’s not gimmicky.
MAC Mattes are VERY matte, are very bold and as with any matte, you better have none-flaky lips, yo!
Side by Side:
The Milani as you can see is cream finish and has that sheen, whereas the MAC matte is a soft matte and colour wise, is NEON, where as Rose Hip is BRIGHT but not NEON. It is definitely brighter, is more disco, is more unique than Milani’s bright pink.
However, the Neon element also makes Candy Yum Yum more of a statement lipstick, whereas Rose Hip can still be worn, I think, in a more inconspicuous way….you know, blotted down etc.
Texture wise, Milani’s is kinder on the lips, it is a creamy finish after all and my lips felt soft wearing it. Candy Yum Yum is a matte, so naturally my lips felt drier but kudos – they didn’t look nasty and chaffed, as some mattes do look sometimes.
These two lipsticks are the similar but different. Rose Hip definitely has a similar feel to it, and is easier to wear, but is not as unique or cool as Candy Yum Yum but if you hate mattes, then it’s a nice alternative and is of course cheaper.
Candy Yum Yum:
See? Quite different really.
As I have lots of Hot Pinks (hot pink is my red), I prefer Candy Yum Yum which is so bright, unicorn-y and fun to wear but I also very much appreciate the Milani.
Have you tried Candy Yum Yum?
