Matte lips are hot right now – everywhere you look almost every brand has a matte lipstick or liquid lip colour that gives a totally matte finish. There are degrees of matte of course; there’s the ofter sheeny-mattes and the completely flat dead mattes. The pay off usually is; extremely long lasting colour but dried out lips.
Avon’s True Colour Perfectly Matte Lipsticks are supposed to be all matte without the downsides. It is 100% matte (they compared it to MAC Mattes and said it is ‘matt-er’), smooth feel, no cracking, none drying, build able in 15 colours. They have powders build in to them to give a truly truly flat finish but without being drying.
The packaging is exactly as Avon lipsticks usually are; simply black. The case is a matte finish like the old NARS ones which fits the product! I like the clear top which means you can quickly see what shade is inside (if you have multiple colours):
The 15 shades I have seen to cover most bases, from nudes to reds to berries to pinks. You will be able to find one you like.
I have 4 shades here – Au Naturale, a medium toned brown beige, Coral Fever, a bright orange red, Superb Wine, a purple berry andWild Cherry, a hot pink.
Although I have to admit I haven’t shopped from an Avon catalogue for a long long time I have to say, I am always happy to try new products from the brand – why? Because they’re kinda pretty decent almost always, sort of like a work horse type affordable brand.
I found these colours matte (yes, more matte than MAC mattes, but not as matte as MAC Retro Mattes), with excellent pigmentations and texture. They feel firm but spreadable like when butter has been in the fridge for an hour. There is no issue with tugging.
In terms of feeling dry, I think that it’s nearly impossible for there to be no dryness with a matte lip product but it is certainly a lot less with the Avon than with some other brands. I didn’t notice terrible flaking or blotching, nor did I notice colour gathering my lip cracks and lines.
I would describe these as soft mattes – they don’t give that dead look liquid mattes give (I don’t actually like completely flat, I think it’s a bit harsh looking) they don’t scream LOOK AT MY MATTE LIPS like some products do. In a good way.
My face looked strange on these pictures so I have done lip swatches only!
I like this colour although it is very nude, it reminds me of MAC’s Kinda Sexy.
Coral Fever is a bright red orange:
I like this shade although I would probably wear it the least because it is quite bright and I am not sure about the intensity of the orange in it.
This wears as a bright hot pink on me. I like this kind of colour although with the matte finish i could look a bit dated. I like it as a pop of colour in the centre of the lips though.
