Monday 6th October
Estee Lauder Muse
Freshness, field of white posh flowers. Someone’s wedding, a Pinterest perfect one. Subtle fizzy alcoholic drink. Very white and floral, universal and classic. Prefer it when it has settled down on the skin. 6/10
Estee Lauder Muse Chic
Musky woods with flowers everywhere. A fresh burst of white flowers…a very sweet scent. Smells like a loving aunt. Once settled I can smell the warm woody touch, like a vintage drawer you’ve inherited. 7/10
When comparing the two scents, I get a zestier fresh feel from MUSE versus an older warm smell from MUSE Chic.
Tuesday 7th October
Estee Lauder Sensuous Nude
Very strong coconut smell. I can smell after sun, sun cream, the beach, a hotel room after a day of being bitten by bugs. Creamy vanilla coconut desserts. Warm and quite sexy. 7.5/10.
Calvin Klein Reveal
Horrible harsh alcoholic opening. Found it to be warm and spicy at first, followed by vanilla and chocolate, melting slightly. Unusual, there’s something else there that smells like sweat, salt perhaps. Once settled it really really grew on me – it reminds me of baby H’s breath after he’s had a mikado. 7.5/10
Wednesday 8th October
Eau de GaGa (Unisex)
Floral tones. Smells quite thin and flat in a way. Dries down to smell like Chinese tea, which I like. I can smell lemon and oolong then a Chinese medicine smell. I quite like this actually, it’s unusual and reminds me of a Chinese pharmacy. it does seem to fade fast though. 6/10.
Transat Yves Rocher (Mens)
Fresh aquatic smell, the sea. Predictable male scent, this is what a man who does what he is told wears. A teenage boys dream scent when he’s trying to be grown up – like Davidoff’s Cool Water. Peppery and slightly musky. Not too harsh overall but my nose tired of it fast. 4/10
Thursday 9th October
Jovoy Rouge Assasin
One of the more unknown brands (I LOVED smelling these kinds of perfumes as I had no preconceptions at all).
Sweet tobacco smell, like an ash tray mixed with a biscuit. Fuzzy and furry feeling. Smells like the corner of a room in an old Paris antique shop. Warm and spicy. Unisex perhaps. A bit too ash-tray ish for me though. 5/10
Jovoy L’enfant Terrible
Aniseed, spice, warmth. Lighter feel after the opening, a floral type smell. Sweets. Five spice. Clean curry without the cream being added, like Indian spices. 6/10
Friday 10th October
I was recommended to try this by Jo Fairley, The Perfume Society founder, as this classic cologne can help clear the nose after ‘over smelling’ lots of different scents. I bought a small bottle from eBay.
Savlon and plasters. Mild and slight sweetness. I can smell Chinese medicine again, and the hospital. Dettol. I have a real thing for dettol because my Nan used to bathe in it. Clean scent. Not an easy one to rate as it just is what it is but if I were to wear it as a scent I’d say 5/10.
Jovoy Private Label
Old sweet burnt smoky cinder toffee. Fudge. Wetness. Old antique shop after it’s been raining outside. Dead relatives book shelf that needs emptying. Not horrible and I enjoyed smelling it as it’s so interesting, but it’s a bit too ‘real life’ for me to enjoy wearing it as a scent. 5/10
(I did 3 today as 4711 was a bit of an add on scent).
Jovoy L’Arbre de la Connaissance
Peardrop sweets. Mushy and furry afterwards, a soft white layer on top. Coconut and rum. Sweet holidays, first love. Powdery. Smells strong at first then disappears and reminds me of fresh white fleshed fruit.
Saturday 11th October
Jovoy Garde La Moi
Sweet and musky – floral notes. Very muted and soft, Powdery and old fashioned, quite boring. 5/10.
Jovoy La Liturgie de Recres
Smells like Asia. Hong Kong Streets. Incense, burnt stuff. Woody. Tired old men in flip flops wondering the streets. Unglamourous but very comforting to me – not really a scent I’d wear, I’d spend the whole time going ‘What IS that smell?’ 5/10
(Note: Just because I wouldn’t wear these, I have to say they are so very interesting to smell!).
Sunday 12th October
Hits you hard – smells of rotting vegetables to me. Nail polish remover. Very artificial. Sweetness underneath that old smell which I really dislike and bothers mee. Aniseed. Soil. A tired old hippie. 3/10
Jovoy Les Jeux Sont Faits (this is the last Jovoy I am including here!)
Woody like an old Chinese fruit I forget the name off. Spicy too, but a powdery spice. Quite an old fashioned scent, there’s nothing fresh about this at all. Book smell, old drunk man who wears a scent his daughter who no longer talks to him bought him 10 years ago. An old smoking jacket. 4/10.
