Suqqu Creamy Glow Lipstick Moist in 03 Fuyuzakura & EX-05 Hanabotan Review & Swatches

For Christmas, Mr C asked me to provide a list of some bits and bobs that I wanted, and on that list were a few Suqqu lipsticks which I would usually find on the steep side (£27 each) to buy as a little perk me up.

I thought that two of the Autumn/Winter 2012 Suqqu Creamy Glow Lipsticks looked like my kinda thing, judging purely on internet swatches;  03 Fuyuzakura & EX-05 Hanabotan.  Fuyuzakura is a creamy pink & Hanabotan (limited – when Japanese brands have a EX prefix, it usually means LE) is a bronzed rose.

Suqqu Creamy Glow Lipstick 03 EX 05The Suqqu packaging is simple elegant sleek black with little padding. The actual tubes are a shiny and medium weight and look fairly small but to be fair, they just haven’t gone for the extravagance of say a YSL lipstick.  I wasn’t disappointed seeing the packaging of these, although I did worry about misplacing them as I have a habit of losing my, er, smaller barrels…

The colour collection…

Here was the release shades from A/W 2012.  I honestly think I could’ve went for any of these in the sense that these ‘moist’ Suqqu eyeshadows are always sheer and juicy, it’s not like you’ve got a weird or hard to work with palette or texture going on here:SuqquSuqqu Creamy Glow Lipstick Moist in 03 Fuyuzakura EX 05 Hanabotan Review Swatches 1

The lipsticks don’t look particularly inspiring, I can think of a dozen Japanese milk glow lipsticks that look like this Although…I have to say, I find Japanese lipsticks superior to most of the Korean ones I’ve tried, plus they are the best ever if you want a hydrating, plump, water shine finish.  But if I want pigment…MAC it is.

Fuyuzakura is described as a pink with no shimmery bits – I saw a review of this where it was described as a matte pink, I don’t think it really is! Hanabotan to me is a bronzy rose.

Swatches – meh:

Come on now, I thought, at this bloody price there should be something redeeming? It should be superior to most lipsticks, it should stand out from all those other millions of Japanese lipsticks that do the same thing.

Well…I have to say, this lipstick belongs on the lips as it comes to life. With a quick swish on the lips, I was left with a medium amount of colour and a controlled gloss and shine. It looked flattering and pretty, and elegant at the same time.  It reminds me of 2 also extraordinarily beautiful shiny lipsticks, Jill Stuarts’ and Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Shine, both of which are a little bit cheaper.

Fuyuzakura (getting sick of typing that!):

Hanabotan:

Verdict:

I don’t know…they are super gorgeous lipsticks, they are, but also pretty expensive and dearer than Chanel, Dior but not as much as Tom Ford…I think, if you love this kind of super moisturising texture with a decent amount of pigment, it’s a winner. Durability is only so so, 2 hours on me which is expected with this kind of texture and it doesn’t leave a stain.

I certainly will carry these around with me as something I can apply throughout the day for pretty pretty lips! But I’ll be like DON’T KISS ME! THIS IS £1 PER APPLICATION!

What is your current favourite lipstick? Would you spend this much?
