Stila’s Aqua Glow Serum Foundation (£34.50) and matching concealer (£19) boasts a weightless glowing finish in a super light texture. I haven’t tried a Stila base in a while but I love a new foundation – this formula is quite different to my usual BB or Cream textures in that is is quite a watery (hence water based serum).
Despite being light, the products are supposed to be ‘highly refractive’ and give good coverage whilst blurring imperfections. The finish is natural and healthy looking.
So let’s talk about the foundation first.
The foundation comes in 10 shades, and Stila do tend to accommodate for a variety of skintones from light to dark. I did have trouble at first choosing my shade – Medium Tan which is my usual choice oxidised and was too yellow for my NC35 skintone. Light Medium was slightly too ashen, so the correct match is Medium (which I would also recommend to anyone else who is a MAC NC35 yellow skintone).
The concealer is in light as I am using this primarily under the eyes and darker areas (such as the corner of the mouth).
Due to the watery consistency (well, it isn’t watery as such, more of a serum) the product comes in a dropper which makes it easier to control. I liked to tub this between my hands and pat on to the skin as I didn’t feel it worked as well with a brush.
The concealer is a creamy texture and covered well. It comes with this tip you can use to dot the product wherever you want.
Having used this pair for a while now I would say that despite the fact they are on the pricer side (compared to drug store make up) they are great if you want:
– A light serum textured foundation – there aren’t that many around
– LOTS of glow and gentle hydration (I am not sure I would like the glow if I had oily skin though)
– Pigmentation – the coverage is decent with just one layer – it covers most redness – but it is buildable too
– Easy blending – I struggled a bit with a brush but with my hands I found the product was to blend in.
I am wearing both of the products in the picture below.
The concealer is permanently in my daily make up bag. The foundation I also like although it’s not my daily foundation purely because I like to be able to rub in a BB cream quickly with my day to day base and this foundation requires a tad more work. I would use it regularly as a summer foundation though (it has a silicone-y feel that I am sure would repel sweat!).
