Snail extract, slime, secretions – whatever you want to call it is BIG business in Korean skincare and it’s totally beyond the point where people still go “ewwww” and is part and parcel of so many Korean ranges. I have a Mizon snail serum which I think is ok although I haven’t found it has done miracles for me personally, it is a nice soothing slimy serum to use when my skin is feeling a little red and sore.
I was very interested in the It’s Skin BeBe (kids) skincare range which is also centered around D’Escargot – snails!
Snail extract is supposed to have a number of benefits and they say that the snails are treated fairly (more about it here) but in this particular product I bought – the Soothing Gel which is 97% of natural origin, it is supposed to help soothe baby’s skin and protect from irritants. I personally use this as a lightweight moisturiser on the kids – it has nice slip and a light texture that doesn’t look slime for too long.
This contains a few essential oils which could be irritating for kids with very sensitive skin, such as lime oil, lemon peel oil, tangerine peel oil. It didn’t react badly with my two boys’ skin however and they are quite reactive.
In short there’s a few things I like about the gel.
It has a night light texture and it goes far because of it’s slippy texture. I get a tiny dot and smear it on the kids faces (they have dry skin) and it sinks in and keeps things hydrated for a few hours. Both of my kids are prone to dryness and just because I use a thick balm on them doesn’t mean that it is long lasting – this is relatively long lasting without the heaviness, which I like.
I detect a teeny weeny bit of an orange smell but nothing overwhelming.
I’ve not used this on the kids bodies but because of the slippy texture it would be fantastic for massaging with.
