Every beauty blogger, I am sure, gets approached to review certain types of products more than others or tends to talk about particular genres of beauty. I find that a get a lot of requests from new or niche brands that you may not have heard of; I find this interesting because it gives me a chance to find some diamonds that I would never ever have otherwise come across.
So today I am talking about two products from Skintifique, a brand with labs in Paris and Boston. This range’s USP is that is protects from metal irritants and they only use ingredients with exceptional safety profiles making them great for sensitive or reactive skin.
All the the products are made simply with as few ingredients and possible with 0% parabens, silicones, mineral oil, scent, sulphate landline, phthalate and EDTA.
As someone with highly reactive skin (I can use something comfortably one day then it goes haywire with it the next) this simple range appeared to me. I tried the Cleanser P which is a micellar water (5 ingredients) and the Hydrating Gel Plus HS (8 ingredients).
So first of all let me talk about the Micellar water which I have been trying for a few weeks.
I am not the biggest fan of Micellar water – I like to wash my face where possible but with 2 kids, there will always always always be a time where I can either not wash my face, or quickly use a micellar water instead. I have tried many micellar waters but did not have a favourite; well now I do.
This Purity and Detox Cleanser is EXTREMELY effective at getting make up off. I was having one of those days, and swiped this clear, watery solution over my face (there’s no scent but it has a sort of smell to it which is just the product) and it all came off. And it was not drying, nor irritating. I was just surprised by how effectively it took all my layers of make up off. It even took off eye make up (not waterproof mascara though).
Most importantly I didn’t feel a residue (which I hate about micellar waters). I definitely will keep this one close to hand.
Then there is the Intense and Lasting Hydrating Gel Plus HS.
This stuff is SO WEIRD. The texture is just odd. If you don’t shake it, the watery bits come out first. When it comes out properly, it starts to ball up in your hands almost right away. It’s weird. It feels so watery and thin when you do get it on to your skin, like it just disappears leaving the surface feeling a bit springy.
The formulation is based on pure demineralised water and castor oil – it says that it has a moisturising level of 40%.
I’ve said how utterly weird it is. But the thing is – it is absolutely amazing for dry skin. Really. You know me, I don’t say how great things are unless I really think so.
I used this on H2 who was suffering from extremely sore dry red patches on his cheeks. I could see that I had to drench his face in moisture without using anything to heavy or irritating. I tried EVERYTHING. I tried stuff from the Doctors, all kinds of posh kids creams, all sorts of soothing balms but his skin would not rehydrate to a good level.
Then I used this weird textured gel and within 3-4 days, he had juicy cheeks again. It was amazing. I make a point of putting this on his cheeks at least once a day (you don’t get a ton of product, at least I seem to get getting through it fast) to keep his moisture levels topped up.
