Sisley Phyto Lip Twist Tinted Balm Lip Colour Review

With the huge success of Clinique’s Chubby Sticks, it’s not a surprise that this style of lip colour – a tinted balm which hydrates and adds colour with the ease of a twist up applicator – is popping up everywhere. I have tried a Chubby Stick before which I thought was ok, and I can completely see why it appeals to most people, but it kind of lacked ‘pizzaz’.

Sisley’s newest lip offering is the Phyto Lip Twist (launched 1st February 2014), featuring 6 key colours which pretty much cover what someone needs in their lip wardrobe!

I could pretty see myself wearing all of the above colours depending on the occasion! Because I am all about colours lately to brighten the face, I chose Cherry and Pinky (red and hot pink!).

Sisley went for their fun zebra print (also used on their blush compacts) which give these quite a young, trendy feel.  I guess the fact that they have the balm like texture means that it could be worn by a teenager or someone who barely wears make up. It’s quite a carefree product in that it’s easy to apply (like a pen) and doesn’t require a sharpener.

These Lip Twists can be used sheerly with a sweep over the lips or built up for more colour.  The colours are quite ‘juicy’ and some are sheerer (such as Nude and Baby) than others (like Berry and Cherry).  In terms of the care side, these Lip Twists contains Phytosqualene (derived from olive oil) and Commiphora Resin extract (similar to Myrrh) which has a smoothing and firming effect.

I didn’t particularly find Cinique’s to have ‘healing’ properties, but I did have faith here because Sisley Lip Balm is my No.1.

Here they are:

Both of these chunky pencils have quite a firm texture, but despite this, they are still rather pigmented and creamy.  I prefer this – I have used lip crayons before that are overly soft, and as I result I get too much product (waste) and I look like a blow up doll.  There’s little wastage here – in fact after a few uses, the tip still looks pretty new.

Pinky is a bright fresh pink, it’s not as scary as a hot pink and is quite wearable and brightening.

Cherry is a bright true soft red which I find very wearable and is very pigmented without being scary.

The texture of this balm is also excellent – I am surprised because as mentioned, it isn’t overly soft or creamy, plus it leaves quite a soft sheer veil on the lips, yet I did feel that my lips were softer and plump.

On the lips, about 2 swipes;

My lips are quite dry so I think these lip twists did a great job of disguising any lines and making them look quite juicy.

The pencil was actually quite good for outlining – I was concerned it would make a mess but I would be fairly confident using this without a mirror (although I would wear it sheerer rather than swiping back and forth as it is pigmented!).

To demonstrate how rich the colour is, here is my entire face – I could be wearing lipstick here! So pigmented!

Verdict:

These are the first lip crayons that I’ve really felt are excellent, in terms of pigmentation, finish and hydrating qualities. I also like the colour choice although they are quite laid back, easy to wear colours. I’d totally add a nude to my collection too.

These cost £28 each and will be launched on the 01st Feb. http://www.sisley-paris.com/
