Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine Lipstick Review

February 10, 2010 |

I was entirely innocent – there I was browsing the Shu Uemura counter when the lady (very loud, very scary) grabbed me to show me this new lipstick – the Rouge Unlimited Supreme Shine!

Of course I didn’t say no! D’oh!

I only bought one as these babies are £19.50 each. I got shade PK340 which is a peachy pink with lots of shimmer. Theres a nice, fairly natural shade selection, a few deeper colours and three artist shades – lilac, blue and white.

How it comes:

They say:

A fusion of breakthrough watery dewy shine and rich color payoff. Revolutionary film keeping capsule, ultra shine oil and shu uemura’s signature hybrid pigment create a smooth, thick veil on the lips that glides on easily to deliver unforseen shine and vibrant pure color payoff.

The packaging is a longer, skinnier version of the normal Rouge Unlimiteds:

The SA kept telling me how slick it looked. Its a nice case but it ain’t slick – YSL’s Rouge Volupte is slick. This is thick plastic.

May I add the the lipstick is a tiny bit wobbly:

The SA told me the magic behind this is that it fades away and leaves a stain on the lips:

It looks reddy/peachy but it is very much a peach based pink! Very pretty.

The fact is this shade is utterly gorgeous. The texture, like a lot of water-feel Japanese lipsticks is stunning. It glides on the lips – its sheer yet pigmented. Its smooth and it hydrates, it plumps and makes your mouth glow. Its gorgeous. But….

Swatched:

Mmm its full of gorgeous micro sparkles:

There was a BUT. The BUT is this. It fades far far far too quickly. Everything about this lipstick is glorious BUT its lasting ability (no it didn’t leave a stain).

Considering this lipstick costs £19.50 which puts it in the YSL Rouge Volupte and Dior Serum De Rouge league. But it ain’t quite there because within an hour, even without food or drinks a lot of it had gone. This is bad, very bad and for the price, its not something I can forgive.

Another look:

This lipstick is SO lovely but the durability lets it down badly. I won’t lie – I want the lilac ‘artist’ shade to play with and I may use it over a long lasting lipstick and stain…yes I will do that because the texture of this lipstick is incredible.

Verdict: Recommended. Kind of.

It looks very, very pretty on you but it’s too bad it doesn’t last. By the way, I love your blog and enjoy reading your reviews very much!

      Hi Lyn

      THanks so much for reading!

No it doesn’t last, I can’t justifying any more even though the texture is to die for 🙁

Ooh, gorgeous! Love the promo picture too.
Sounds lovely, but boo about the lasting power. Makes it rather on the useless side, despite the texture.

      Hi Kuri

Yep. I wanted to go back and buy another 3 lipsticks but for £20 each I expect it to last. It doesn’t, it has terrible lasting power 🙁

I can’t try any shu product, the store is too far away from my house T_T
    Only 2 stores in France..
Maybe if I phone them and ask them which lipstick the girl of this campaign (does that mean somethins? lol) wear.

so I ask for the lipstock worn by the girl of the Shu Uemura Rouge Unlimited Supreme campaign??

    Thanks 🙂
