So I have been testing the Panasonic hand held IPL device for 12 weeks now. Part one of this review is here – click to see the device and my initial thoughts.
If you have used an IPL before then you will know the premise – and IPL promises to zap hair at the root and permanently reduce or completely stop hair growth. The devices are usually in the £100s so more expensive than a BIC razor, but if you spend a lot of money on hair removal (ie. going to the salon) or have a lot of hair you want gone, then it’s a worthy investment.
After using the Panasonic ES-WH80 cordless device I’ve found it as effective as other ones I’ve used and I have tested many (search the blog if you want to see which ones I have tried). This model is good for the body so legs, arms, armpits. It’s not too heavy and easy to position.
It’s funny to think the first IPL systems I used were attached to gigantic bases and here we are with one that is around the size of a remote control!
Like with all IPLs you have to check your skintone is suitable (it can burn someone with dark skin). In my case and I have always found this with IPLs, if I use this on the setting recommend it tends to be a bit uncomfortable – the current feels like someone flicks an elastic band at you. It’s no issue – I just turn it down one. This makes the device work slower but I have never noticed it taking much longer to stop regrowth. If you can handle the discomfort at the level the device recommends, it is supposed to inhibit hair quicker.
I primarily tried this on my arm pits and trust me you don’t want to see my arm pits!
After 12 weeks hair regrowth has been reduced by around 50% – hair is finer, less coarse and with less hairs in general. I am sure that with continued use the remainder of the hairs will also stop growing altogether or continue to be reduced.
I would recommend this device for people who:
1.Want an IPL for the body or larger areas
2. Want something easy to carry around
3. Has a budget of around £200
The best price I can currently see for this is £198 on Amazon.
