Nicky Clarke DesiRED Wide Plate Hair Straightener Review

I genuinely have a soft spot for Nicky Clarke hair appliances – I reviewed the regular sized DesiRED straighteners in 2009  and thought they were better than GHDs (from that era) because they had more glide – old style GHDs always used to drag on my hair.  Now almost 6 years later (eek! Where does the time go!) here are the wide plate version!

I do like wide plate straighteners because it means I get my hair done quicker. If you have thick or long hair then it’s a blessing (although it won’t be easy to do styling with it, whereas you can with smaller plates) because it really does speed everything up.  Even with a selection of regular hair straighteners, I still find it a treat to have wide plate ones as it’s good for days when I need to get my hair done in barely any time at all.

The Nicky Clarke DesiRED straighteners come in the signature red…it’s funny, the style hasn’t changed much at all over the years.

This straightener is a medium weight, not too heavy (I find the GHDs are a little on the heavy side) and once again have those very glidey plates which make it easy to work through hair without pulling too much.

It heats to 230 degrees which is HOT, which means I only have to run it through my hair once, and quickly to get kinks and waves out of it.

The other thing I like about good straighteners is when they grip well together.  It may sound bad, but I have had plenty in the past that don’t press together well (or easily) but these do which makes it easier to use!

These have all the features you’d need in straighteners really; automatic shut off and variable temperature.  Nicky Clarke products are often on offer too at retailers such as Boots, so you can get a pair of these for a bargain price – at least half the price of GHDs. I definitely think these are good straighteners for people looking for a Wide Plate option which doesn’t tug at hair, but doesn’t cost too much.

Features:

• Top temperature 230C

• Advanced ceramic heating technology

• Floating plates

• Ceramic

• Nano Silver

• Variable temperature

• Automatic worldwide voltage

• Salon length 3m cable

• Auto shut-off

You can purchase the hair straighteners  from Boots too (currently on offer too!).
