Moving my MAC eyeshadows! MAC Large Eyeshadow Palette Review! (Pic Heavy)

I am utterly utterly obsessed with depotting eyeshadows and getting them altogether in one place (an example - however I have changed my view on Unii palettes, read on!) so when I saw the new style MAC empty palettes with the clear lids I knew i had to have them.

I didn’t actually realise how many MAC eyeshadows I had collected over the years – I thought I had about 10 because I don’t buy MAC that often! In fact I had enough to fill up nearly 2 palettes (I bought a few more to finish the sets because I am also that kind of person who doesn’t like gaps in my palettes)…anyway…

These palettes were out of stock for a good 2 months!

MAC Large Eyeshadow Palette

These cost £14 each and I eventually found them online (I couldn’t get them on counter either). They are thicker than the old style palettes, have a clear lid and are smaller but chunkier than the originals. I prefer them though, I like the feel of these sturdy palettes….so what did I put in them?

Before that here are the palettes – they come with a protective cover you can peel off (good) but finger marks to leave a greasy stain whereas the old ones in smooth plastic were good for avoiding that.

These palettes can be purchased with inserts that hold 15 colours – this makes them more secure and neater too, however I wanted these without the insert so I could fit more in. The base is magnetic so you don’t NEED to have the insert to hold the eyeshadow pans in.

This is where the eyeshadows were living – in my new UNII palettes – these new style ones are disappointing compared to the original I got. The base is a very very weak magnet, so even the slightest tap made the eyeshadows dislodge. Extremely annoying which is why I started looking for an alternative.

Here is the first palette; my neutrals! Without an insert these palettes can hold 24 eyeshadows exactly.

Here are the swatches, top 2 rows:

MAC PRO PALETTE EYESHADOW BROWNS BRONZES NEUTRAL MAC EYESHADOW SWATCHES SHROOM BRULE RETROSPEK RICEPAPER BAMBOO SOBA WOODWINKED HONEY LUST AMBER LIGHTS BRONZE MYTHOLOGY ROMP

MAC eyeshadows have been written about time and time again and I am not sure there is much I can add, although as a non MAC expert here is my take on the colours!

Shroom – A light beige with a bit of shimmer, mine is a bit gritty

Brule – Nice base matte beige colour

Retrospeck – Very shimmery pale shade, doesn’t show up that well on my skintone

Ricepaper – New purchase, a warm neutral beige peach

Bamboo – A warm neutral nutty soft brown, like this for the crease

Soba – Another neutral crease shade for me but on the browner side than bamboo and not as warm

Woodwinked – Really lovely soft metallic medium mushroom browny shade

Honeylust – Got this after my wedding trial, quite a lot of fall out but it’s ok a glittery gold

Amberlights – Really rich golden bronze, love

Bronze – Bronze! Decent texture not amazing though, I think there are better bronzes

Mythology – Pinked bronze, quite glittery but the texture is ok

Romp – Similar to bronze I think a bit more gold to it?

I have an issue with bronzes and golds I think! I do love them!

Row 3 and 4 (I know orange isn’t very neutral!):

MAC PRO PALETTE EYESHADOW BROWNS BLACK TAUPE ORANGE

Orange – Really rich pigmented bold matte orange, LOVE

Copperplate – New purchase, love this shade, a neutral grey slate colour right up my street

Satin Taupe – Everyone knows this, it’s a really lovely shimmery taupe

Embark – Warm brown, very very rich and pigmented, almost a bit of burgundy in there

Brown Down – Matte brown, warm so perhaps not for everyone but very pigmented again

Twinks – Almost a purply-brown with shimmer

Club – Another famous one, brown blue, love. It’s a bit ugly on me but I don’t care, I love the duality of it

Brun – New purchase, a matte neutral cool deep brown, good brow shade, and liner shade

Smut – A sooty colour with some shimmer

Nehru – Soft grey black, bit of blue in there?

Black Tied – Black with silver glitter

Carbon – Black, matte, deceptively unpigmented!

Here is my ‘brights’ palette:

MAC PRO PALETTE EYESHADOW BRIGHTS GREEN PURPLE BLUE

Again with the names:

MAC PRO PALETTE EYESHADOW BRIGHTS GREEN PURPLE BLUE creme de violet stars n rockets trax vex electra tilt steamy aquadisiac

My brights palette is a mixture of blue, green and purple – I love all of these types of colours.

MAC PRO PALETTE EYESHADOW BRIGHTS GREEN PURPLE BLUE 1 1

Gesso – Matte white – I must’ve bought this with a look in mind but it’s not one I use much now!

Vex – Lovely greyish highlight shade with bits of pink, green etc etc – a really interesting colour

Eletra – Shimmery silver

Tilt – A medium denim blue, don’t even remember buying this

Steamy – A lighter denim blue

Aquadisiac – A rich bright sea blue, like!

Blue Calm – I think this is LE, a really rich peacock blue – love

Deep Truth – A deep rich navy metallic blue

Plumage – Dark dark blue

Sunny – Disappointing lime, matte, not very pigmented

Sour Lemon – Also a lime, better than sunny but not amazing

Bio Green – A greeny lime which is quite funky but not mad pigmented

MAC PRO PALETTE EYESHADOW BRIGHTS GREEN PURPLE BLUE 2 1

Lucky Green – A shimmery pretty leafy green

Swimming – Another bright gold green

Humid -A rich metallic darkened emerald green, nice texture

Greensmoke – Probably my favourite of all of them, a really lovely olive grey green

Sumptuous Olive – A new purchase, a brown old gold green, love this

Pink Venus – I have a thing for pink eyeshadows, this is medium pigmented with glitter

Creme De Violet – Medium violet purple, not that soft

Stars ‘n’ Rockets – Purple with a bluish duo chrome finish, not as keen on this one

Trax – A medium purple with gold glitter, a favourite of mine

Indian Ink – A pro shade, a matte true eggplant colour, very pigmented

Beauty Marked – A rich dark black with purple shimmer, this photo doesn’t do it justice.

Shadowy Lady – A deep matte aubergine purple good for lining or smoky looks.

Of all the colour groups, the greens are the nicest (from Lucky green to Sumptuous Olive), and the weakest…perhaps the neutrals although, they do have a job to do!

So now that I have filled my palettes…I have to make sure I don’t get any more!

Do you have any MAC favourites to tell me about?
