If someone told you you could go to Primark and do all your shopping AND get a number of beauty treatments, what would you think? I know what I thought (CHAOS!) but what actually happened was the complete opposite. You see, Love Beauty Brow & Nail Studio has opened in selected Primark stores in the UK offering affordable nail, brow and lash services.
The concept is by Monika Mohindra (her sister is brow queen Shavata) who has overseen the Training and Retail operations for Shavata studios for the past 15 years. The idea of Love Beauty is that frequently requested beauty treatments will be made affordable and highly accessible to the general public.
So when I went to try out the services (Luxury manicure and brow thread) I had some preconceptions. I rarely go to Primark because since having a child, I find myself getting hot and bothered at the thought of going somewhere as busy as the store, BUT, it has changed quite a bit since I last went in – the layout feels quite generous and whilst the store is HUGE, it’s also got a more sophisticated feel now.
Love Beauty in the Manchester store is located on the top floor next to Costa coffee. If you want a coffee during your treatment they can order in for you (hurrah). Maybe it’s because it is beside Costa and the beauty bits and bobs, it is also a relatively calm corner of the store – I was there on a Friday lunchtime and it never felt claustrophobic or like I was being stared at.
The space is well thought out too – it’s an area that is penned off, so it does feel private – obviously people in the store can see whats going on but they can’t watch you too closely in case you are flinching in pain from your threading (although – it really was quite painless). In other words – it felt very calm and actually peaceful and is more private than other beauty concessions in big department stores because it is fenced off from the main store.
At this moment (the concession is new so it may change) the nail services are at the side of the beauty area, the threading and lashes is in the middle and the drying section for the nails is on the far side.
So back to the review – I was a bit prejudiced before I visited because I thought it would be extremely hectic and full of kids gawping but it wasn’t – it felt very peaceful and private.
There was a lot of staff there the day I visited – more than there were customers but of course, these are early days. I found all of the staff professional and nice too, they were all dressed in funky neon dresses and I just felt comfortable there the whole time.
My manicure was done by Andrea – it was quite a carefully done treatment, I didn’t feel rushed at all which was a surprise, and my cuticles were removed and colour carefully applied. I am not sure about the brand they used though – not one I have heard of before and I am not keen on the colour I chose, because despite have 3 coats applied it still looks a bit sheer! This has nothing to do with the skill of the manicurist though, but the product they used…I wonder if they will stick with this polish brand?
I did really like the drying stations – I always ruin manicures within seconds, but sitting under the hot air for 5 minutes made a huge difference and it made my polish set much quicker.
My brows were done by Aisha, who did a stellar job. I did let my brows grow…errrmmm….quite a bit, and she did a great job of really getting my brows super clean (I get fuzz above my brow too) and she got the bits in-between and under my brows with minimal pain. Once again, I didn’t feel rushed at all (which I sometimes do with other in-store threading services) and she seemed to spend a lot of time making sure there were no strays, and also giving my brows a trim (asking if I wanted that first) to make sure they looked neat.
Brows after treatment and after redness had faded!
Overall, I was in there for about 1 hour 15 mins – I really wasn’t rushed along particularly, and it was a very calm experience…you do actually forget you are sitting in one of the busiest – if not the busiest – clothing store in the city because they’ve done a good job of creating a separate beauty area.
I will definitely go back again for treatments! Also it’s an excuse to have a quick whip around Primark!
Treatments vary from Nails (Luxury Manicure, basic manicure, gel polish, nail extensions etc.), Threading (all facial areas) to Lashes (non-permanent and semi permanent application, various choices when it comes to style and brow/lash tinting).
The cheapest treatment is threading (upper lip, chin, forehead, neck for £3 per area) to £70 for a set of semi-permanent super glam lashes. In reality, most treatments are affordable at around £5-£22. I personally would definitely go back for brow threading at £5 and get a basic manicure (file, cuticles and polish) for £10. Bargain!
Launch dates are; Manchester Primark on the 15th September, Liverpool on the 22nd of September and Dublin on the 29th of September.
