There are more and more high street beauty brands offering light textured but highly pigmented lip colours, and L’Oreal Colour Riche Extraordinaire Lip Colours are one of the newest on offer. There are 16 shades in total, and these glosses provide colour and shine. I am a sucker for a new lip colour. BRING ON THE EXTRAORDINAIRE!!!!
I have 3 shades here to review. Each lip gloss in provided in a pale gold container, in line with L’Oreal packaging, which is simple and unfussy. I have no issue with it, it doesn’t make cry like a cat on heat, but I don’t hate it either. It’s safe, useable, somewhat lightweight.
Transform lips from ordinary to extraordinary. Color is richer, lip surface is smoother and shine is magnified. Formulated with precious micro-oils and rich color pigments, Extraordinaire provides the ideal balance of color and care for perfect lips. The unique soft-touch applicator allows for a silky-smooth, gliding application.
These lip glosses are oil based and you can tell – they leave a very very shiny glossy finish, and feel soft on the lips. They leave a sort of ‘slick’ on the top of the lips which is quite different to the formulas I have been testing out recently – I guess it feels more old school, but it’s fine. The texture feels comfortable and hydrating, so that’s a good thing. I wouldn’t say it feels ‘creamy’, as it’s more oily than that (ie. sits on the surface).
I have 201 Rose Symphony – Rose Pink, 204 Tangerine Somate – Bright clear orange, and 600 Nude Vibrato – Sheer beige.
The applicator is nice – I am particularly fussy over my lip product applicators, and it feels lovely and smooth, soft with a tiny well in the centre, which collects enough product for a good application.
The pigmentation is excellent, surprisingly because it does look like it will run slightly sheer. You only need one coat for good coverage. Swatch:
On the negative side, like many glosses this is not long lasting and there is no stain left over = many reapplications. Luckily, all the colours are wearable and easy going despite being pigmented, you can reapply this easily without a ton of make up over your face. They are quite thick though which I like as I have dry lips but as I mentioned earlier, to does have a ‘slick’ feeling.
Excuse my tired eyes, I didn’t have much make up on.
Bright, shiny pink, wearable without being too hot, quite a basic pink.
Rich orange, very glossy again, not a scary orange.
The least pigment of the three, sheer creamy beige, a bit of a ‘dead’ shade, better with strong eyes and not one I would wear with a very basic or make up free face.
All in all, a decent lip gloss if you want something with pigment, that is very wearable for say work. If you want something more interesting though that is more 3D, has sparkles, or has a more multi dimensional finish then you’ll probably find this colour quite dull. I wouldn’t go out and buy one of these quite frankly, because I have a vast lip collection already and like to try something more interesting than this, but someone like my cousins, who are new to using make up would love these.
Those cost £8.99 each and you can buy them here at Boots.
