Kim Kardashian and indeed the whole Kardashian family are quite controversial figures; at this moment in time completely saturate a lot of Western media and seem to have a lot of influence on current trends (particularly for teenagers!). Love her or hate her, she certainly raises a lot of areas for discussion (like her recent nude bathroom picture!).
Today I am talking about her original scent as opposed to the lady herself – there is a reason I have this perfume in my hands. Would I normally go for a Kim Kardashian perfume? No. As celebrity scents go, I tend to stick to tried and tested brands or slightly more niche fragrance houses as a treat.
I actually have the scent because I was longing for my original Michael Kors scent which has a tiny bit left and according to the clever people at Fragrantica suggested the KK scent as a good dupe. A celebrity fragrance? Really? I wasn’t so sure but hey ho, I received a sample of this and had my first spritz….
The fragrance is lovely. It totally DOES smell like the Michael Kors – I sniffed them side by side and whilst the KK scent is a little louder at first spritz, I found the heart notes very similar and the general caramel sweetness, flowery vanilla tone practically the same (bearing in mind the MK scent is more expensive).
I would the MK has a slightly smokier base note in there once the scent has settled down. Other than that they are so similar. In fact, if you don’t want that slightly smoky tone you may prefer Kim’s scent, which is somewhat fresher in essence. I found this lasted quite well too without being overbearing. I don’t wear scents that are too heady or overbearing as I am with the kids 24/7 and I don’t want to overwhelm them. One spritz of this is perfect for a delicate daily sweet scent that wears down to a pretty creamy vanilla-tuberose scent.
The Kim Kardashian scent is a mixture of White Floral, Tuberose and more (one of my favourites).
Mandarin, Honeysuckle, Orange Blossom
Pink Jasmine, Tuberose, Sensual Spices, Gardenia
Tonka Bean, Jacaranda Wood, Vanilla Orchid, Sexy Musk, Creamy Sandalwood
Michael Kors contains notes of Freesia (also a white flower), Turkish Rose, Orange Flower, White Peony, Dried Fig and Moroccan Incense.
It’s funny, I would never have even considered reviewing a Kim Kardashian scent if it wasn’t for the fact it was comparable to the MK but I totally adore it and I’ve been wearing it every day since I got it. I find it a very feminine scent, sexy and distinctive. 100ml of this is usually £40 but currently £20 at Debenhams whereas 100ml of the Michael Kors is £79! There is a huge price difference there – I would definitely go for the cheaper option here because they are so incredibly similar.
There you go – I judged a scent before I ever smelled it, but I definitely will open my mind to celebrity scents from now on.
