My beautiful Italian friend, Anna, (THANK YOU!!!) went to…well, Italy, and came back with a rather impressive large block of cheese for me (Pecorino! It’s so strong, it’s the real thing!) and this rather lovely selection of Kiko Cosmetics – my first ever dabble in the range! There is a Kiko flagship store in London now (Regent Street) but I am glad that I’ve avoided the hype so far and can now in a leisurely fashion, try out this rather intriguing range.
As you can see, with some assistance from a chubby hand, I have the Smokey Look Eyeshadow 05, Water Eyeshadow 218, Smart Lipstick in 913. I find it interesting that Kiko is quite understated; you know, the packaging is black and simple both in the box and out, the names are numbers generally, nothing glitzy there.
Here are the products again. Smokey Look eyeshadow 05 is a pencil eyesahdow/liner which a smudged on the other end. It’s soft and blendable and is a quick and easy way to create a smokey eye look. I like purples a lot too.
The Water Eyeshadow is reminiscent of Sephora’s Prisima Chrome eyeshadows (which I NEARLY got). I have this in 218 which is a brightening peach – love. Would never choose it myself cos I always end up going for dark colours but this is a really wearable choice.
Smart Lipstick in 913 is a MLBB colour – a rosy grown up hue.
Water Eyeshadow comes with this stunning swirly pattern. It’s not a ‘soft’ shadow either so the pattern will remain for a while I think.
When I rub my finger over this eyeshadow it feels soft and creamy, and with good pigmentation but still ‘light’. It does give that slightly foiled effect I think, like when you wet an eyeshadow before you use it, no doubt this is why it is called the ‘Water’ eyeshadow.
218 – a golden peach – is very useful for me to mix with my browns. I wonder who dark colours translate in this texture – do they take a lot of work to pack up pigment? All I can say is that as a light – medium colour in this texture, it works really well because the sheen is so pretty.
See all the colours!
Smokey Look Eyeshadow 05 is another good product – it’s creamy again without being too creamy or rich, and blends well – a little too well, I’d suggest patting it or using a brush lightly instead so you don’t sponge off the colour – to leave a subtle smokey eyes. This product will crease towards the end of the day, so I layered it with the eyeshadow and it looked great and of course helped to set it.
Smart Lipstick 913 is a rich textured, creamy, soft and comfortable lipstick – really nice to wear with good pigmentation. The colour is one of my grown up roses – it looks elegant and can cross over Autumn and Spring I think.
Eyes with the pencil and eyeshadow:
This is my first go with Kiko, I like everything I’ve tried so I’d definitely look at the range next time I am in London!
