Kevin B – Chinese Make Up Book

I love all make up books, apart from the ones from the 80s with bad spiral perms and bushy brows.  I love looking at Chinese language make up books – the emphasis is on LOOK since I can’t read Chinese.

My latest find is Kevin B’s Make up book split into a day/skincare guide and a make up guide.

Kevin’s work seem creative and of a high standard. I like make up books to have inspirational and dramatic make up as well as natural ones too. This book has a decent mix.

Part one is full of text (the skincare guide).  Its not much use to me since I can’t read it…hmph.  So let’s talk about part two.

Part two shows off make up looks.

After every little section there’s bits recommending products – so a section for base, a section for eyes etc:

Because I am addicted I knew what most of the products were – if you aren’t and you don’t read chinese you might struggle finding out what the brands used are.

The photos look airbrushed – I guess they all are these days (Nars promo pictures aren’t with the exception of Naomi Campbell – when she models for nars she insists on Photoshop).

I can’t say that I got tons of NEW ideas or ideas for colour combos but I really did like the overall polished look of everything.

It was about £12 so not a hugely pricey book, so worth it for a flick. If I were to pay like £30 for a make up book I would like to be able to read the text too!

Taiwan seems to be big on beauty! Fashion Guide’s videos on YouTube are all from Taiwan. There’s are some great ones on there by some talented artists.

I am also dying to locate a brand called Chic Choc. Someone told me you can get them in Hong Kong but apparently the brand has moved exclusively to Taiwan. Noooooooo!

  1. From what I recall, I remember Kevin saying Chic Choc was a taiwanese brand. Don’t quote me on that. I am impressed by Chic Choc’s lastest items as well. The drawer is too cute!

  2. I have an addiction to beauty books, I even have a couple of Japanese ones that I can’t read, my family think I’m crazy :) Glad I’m not the only one who buys books they can’t read!

  3. Hi KC! I believe you are right! Now, how to get to Taiwan!

  4. Hey Chica!

I am the same! I have some by Takako, and a VOCE book. I have loads in Chinese that I can’t read either but I like the pretty pictures!

  5. hi, I want that too, coul u tell me where did you get it?

  6. I love the Chic Choc line! I go to Taiwan every summer and stock up on makeup, such as Bourjois which isn’t an Asian brand but they sell them in drugstores in taiwan, lots of chic choc, japanese brands, etc. Chic choc is great, i loove their liners. The colors are very bright and pigmented. I wish we could buy them online!
