Jo Malone’s Black Cedarwood and Juniper was originally part of the London Rain collection that launched in March 2014. The particular fragrance evokes the sense of midnight London showers. I wasn’t sure what to expect as I often down with the darker less obvious fragrances like this, but I’ve really been enjoying using this masculine spicy woody scent.
The notes are:
Cumin and Chilli
I find this cologne very interesting – not your average spicy woody male scent because I find there’s a deep rich berry smell in it and there is a prickly-ness I sense…it’s green but not fresh green. More of an aged green (perhaps this is the Cedar). I do find a sweetness/creamy note in there and I am not sure why, but that is what makes it kinda female friendly too (and I adore masculine scents) but I feel like the sweet note (like vanilla?) makes it a bit warmer, if you like.
As for the spice – I pick up a peppery-chilli, that fades and leaves something woody behind. I would call this a fresh woody pepper if that makes sense? It’s unusual that’s for sure but pleasant. I have mixed this with Sea Sage and Wood salt for extra freshness, and also Incense and Cedrat for more of an evening scent. Both combinations are lovely. I bet this would be nice with more berry – perhaps mixing with Blackberry and Bay (not a scent I have though) would make it extra lovely.
Black Cedarwood and Juniper will be released as a permanent member of the family in May 2016.
