I’ve realised I have a bit of a thing for Hourglass base products – they are in my day to day make up bag, although the brand is a little expensive, the powder palette I bought it still going strong a year on as it my blush and bronze duo. That is the only reason I could bring myself to buy this pricy Ambient Blush palette (£56) is the fact the the Ambient Powder palette I bought is clearly going to last me another 2 years (probably) so I know this one will last.
One blush is usually £28 and since I don’t any so far, I thought it would be a good way to get a feel for these blushers.
Shades left to right are: Luminous Flush, Incandescent Electra and Mood Exposure.
Luminous Flash is a champagne rose.
Incandensent Electra is a cool peach (the lightest of the group).
Mood Exposure is a plummy toned blush.
These blushers are supposed to leave a bright illuminating finish, unlike some other blushers – hence the marbled effect.
These have a note on the purchase page saying they are delicate and need to be handled with care which worries me slightly as H like to mess about with my make up sometimes. I would also worry about transporting it around.
Anyway – this powder feels hard to touch which made me a bit concerned about the pigmentation. When swatched you can see they look quite powdery – perhaps this is the light streaks of illuminating powder being mixed in with the pigment.
Excuse the cut on my hand!
The shades are all quite wearable although the middle colour is light on my NC30-35 skintone. It requires more work to get the colour to show up. I actually quite like the first and last shades, which are subtle, pretty and do leave my skin looking glowing. It is quite hard to overdo this blush so yes, it is subtle, but I prefer it to something super pigmented which is easier to make mistakes with.
All in all, this is a nice palette and it’s joined my day to day palette and I can use it without too much bother. It doesn’t look over done or flat, it’s just a decent blusher palette and I prefer it to NARS’ Virtual Domination blush palette. I have no urges to buy more Ambient Blushes though, I think these 3 shades will do me fine for quite a while.
You can buy this here for £56.
