Holland & Barrett Treat Box Review – Wonder Oil & Black Cherry Concentrate

A while ago I was sent a taster box (treat box? tuck box?) with a selection of Holland & Barrett products to review covering health, beauty and skincare.

Holland & Barrett wasn’t somewhere I started shopping in until a few years ago (my nan and mum always did though to buy fish oil!).  Now I do spend quite a lot of time in there buying nice food bits and drinks.  If you haven’t been in for a while or think it’s just full of stuff for health food freaks, it’s actually full of products that most people can probably find use out of, not just supplements and dried beans!

*One thing that does annoy me about Holland and Barrett is that if you use their points saver card, points you collect expire quite quickly.  I have twice missed out on using collected points because I just didn’t have time to go in store. Sort it out guys!

Anyway – the goody box;

Wonder Oil Black Cherry Concentrate

I’ve never tried these products before – the two that intrigued me the most were the Wonder Oil and Black Cherry Concentrate!

First off, the Wonder Oil.

I have tons of face and body oils at the moment which I really enjoy using for different things.  Wonder Oil is a blend of just about every oil you can think of and extracts!

Olive Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil, Wheat GermOil (Triticum vulgare), Citrus Blend [Grapefruit Peel Oil (Citrus grandis), Lemon Peel Oil (Citrus medica limonum), Orange Peel Oil (Citrus aurantium dulcis)], Sweet Almond Oil (Prunus amygdalus), Sesame Oil, Herbal Extract Blend in Safflower Oil [Burdock Root Extract (Arctium lappa), AlfalfaExtract (Medicago sativa), Chamomile Extract (Chamomilla recutita flower), Wild Cherry Bark Extract (Prunus serotina), Hyssop Extract (Hyssopus officinalis), Sage Leaf Extract(Salvia offinialis), Black Walnut Leaf Extract (Juglans nigra), Goldenseal Root Extract (Hydrastis canadensis), Henna Extract (Lawsonia inermis), Jaborandi Leaf Extract (Pilocarpus pennatifolius), Slippery Elm BarkExtract (Ulmus fulva), Sheep Sorrel Extract (Rumex acetosella), Wheat Germ Extract (Triticum vulgare), Yarrow Extract (Achillea millefolium)], Jojoba Oil (Buxus chinensis), Vitamin E (as Mixed Tocopherols), Alpha Bisabolol, Rosemary Extract (Rosmarinusofficinalis), Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D.

This oil has a nice slightly orangey scent and is a medium textured oil – thick enough to feel effective, thin enough to sink in and not feel like a greasy slick.

Wonder Oil Review

This can be used as a hair oil (like VO5!) if left in the hair for 10-15 minutes, or all over. I have been using this as an all over body oil after a shower and I LOVE IT.  It is just the right texture for that kind of thing and my skin feels soft and hydrated afterwards.  The only thing is that I am already half a bottle down 2 weeks in (well I do shower…er….regularly).

To be fair though, theres 237ml (why not 250ml!) in there and for the price it’s not bad.  It could be a lot worse – some body oils are much pricer for the quantity.  This is £10.98 from here

The item I really like is the Black Cherry Concentrate:

Black cherry concentrate

Black Cherry Concentrate are a source of antioxidants and can apparently enhance memory and mood, relax the body for sleep, relieve inflammation and with that, symptoms of gout, headaches and arthritis.

I like cherries so I quite enjoyed drinking this black syrup – it can be mixed with warm or cold water, still or fizzy. It can be used as a topper on ice cream etc – you can get creative!

I genuinely found that this relaxed me – I am suffering from quite bad back pain at the moment and this made me more relaxed and generally calmer.

With some water;

I like this stuff, I would purchase it in the future – it’s £11.69 from here.

One of the products I have which I have only tried for a short amount of time is the Dr Organic Moroccan Argan Oil Night Cream;

Morroccan argan oil night cream

This so far, is a really nice thick hydrating cream.  I do think Dr Organics is a really nice range for the price.

They say;

A bioactive overnight treatment based on: Organic Argan Oil and enriched with ArganylTM, Argan Extract, Aloe Vera Leaf Juice, Orange Fruit Extract, Clove Oil, Geranium Oil, Lemon Peel Oil, Patchouli Oil, Cinnamon Leaf Oil, Rosewood Oil, Wild Mint Oil, Mandarin Peel Oil, Vanilla Fruit Extract, Spearmint Oil, Kigelia Fruit Extract, Roselle Flower Extract, Baobab Fruit Extract.

 This rich hydrating night cream also includes three organic African extracts: Kigelia, Roselle and Baobab. These extracts have been used for centuries and due to their unique antioxidant properties they help soften the skin and increase levels of vitamin C, which in turn assists in collagen synthesis and younger looking skin.

I don’t know about it being anti-ageing but if you have dry and somewhat tired skin like me, this does work a treat overnight…it’s been a while since I’ve found a good cream that just keeps everything enriched.

Argan Oil Cream Dr Organics

This is £9.49 for a 50ml tub – good value!

Finally there is the Lavender Essential Oil:

Lavender soothing lavender oil

I have a selection of essential oils anyway and to be honest I purchase them from eBay as they are cheaper than buying them from ‘brands’. This is useful for diluting with an oil for a massage, or use it with an oil burner or in a diffuser etc.

I never used to like lavender but I’ve grown to in my old age 😀  This is a good a Lavender Essential Oil as any to be honest and if you need to pick one up on the high street, it’s not ridiculously prices.

£4.99 for 10ml.

My favourite bits are Wonder Oil and the Cherry Concentrate!

Do you like the Holland & Barrett store? What do you buy there? My top H&B purchases are; Quinoa, Raspberry Chocolate Liquorice and Coconut Water!
