Etude House Vivid Pop Stick Lip Colours Review

I have generally stopped make up hauling AHEM – only buying make up when I think it looks really interesting or different.  I fancied these Etude House Vivid Pop Stick Lip Colours because I have a thing for chubby stick glosses at the moment (easy to apply) and I like bold long lasting lips at the moment.

These Vivid Pop Sticks have a few USPs; a matt finish (quite rare with Asian branded make up which favours sheer glossy shades), Vivid Colours and is long lasting. This pencil doesn’t need sharpening.

I picked 3 colours – 04 is a hot pink, 05 is a peach nude and 08 is a deep red.

Here is the collection:

There’s two ways they tell you to apply the colour – all over for a smooth pigmented finish or just in the middle of the lips for a ‘just sucked a lolly’ tint.

I was a bit stupid so didn’t show them in order but never mind!

These pencils are quite pigmented but also a little on the waxy side.  I didn’t find them as soft as I’d liked, and the finish is sort of a semi-matte which I didn’t find very flattering.

Here are the swatches:

05 is a peach orange which was the closest I could see to a nude in the collection. The official swatches are very pretty but on my lips it was too pale and looked horrible and cakey.

On my lips:

This colour was a real disappointment to me – you can see it really sits in the lines and makes my lips look quite dry and flaky.  The pigmentation is also just so-so.

The next shade is 05, a bright blue based pink:

This was not as pretty in the photo where it more likes a traditional hot pink – this is almost too blue and looks 80s IN A BAD WAY.

Once again I found this crayon a bit dry looking – I guess it’s not bad for a matte (it’s not as drying as Nars Velvet Mattes for example) but still looks dry even if it doesn’t feel too dry.

Red is 08 and is probably the best looking Pop Stick:

This is my favourite one and it isn’t nearly as vampy as I thought it would be.  My application isn’t the best but actually, the chubby pencil isn’t that great for precise application.

All in all I feel like these Vivid Pop Sticks are lacking in something – maybe it’s because the colours aren’t quite what I expected, and the textures aren’t as creamy as I wanted (more waxy). They’re not an awful purchase but I think there are better matte pencils out there on the market

Verdict: Kinda a miss.

I paid around £6 for these on eBay.

  1. Aww I got number 5 and love it, I didn’t find it 80′s at all for me personally.

  2. Wowsa there’s a big difference between the official swatch and how it looks on a ‘real’ person for that first one! I find the idea of a matte ‘chubby stick’ fascinating- shame that it was such a disappointment
