People quite frequently ask me, What is my favourite mascara?
And my answer usually is…I dunno. It changes. Plus my lashes aren’t like your lashes, they’re straight and kind of awkward so, it takes a special kind of mascara. It’s like having big boobs or big feet; you need to buy good quality, expensive, rare bras and shoes because otherwise you just don’t have the comfort or support. Those with average sized boobies and feet can go to Primark if they want…
Anyway, it’s like that with me and mascara. I spend a fortune finding one that fits…
Etude House’s Lash Perm range comes in volume and long (I chose Volume) and is smudge proof but comes off with warm water. It is supposed to hold curl and last for 24 hours. The base coat / primer comes in a pink tube and is a whitish almost grey colour like many other lash primers.
I have a lot less success with Korean mascaras than I do with Japanese ones.
Etude House and Skinfood mascara’s almost never seem to work for me. So what about these ones?
Well first off this is Etude House so the packaging is very cute and girly (something you’ll find with most of their products):
I had a lot of hope for these products because the focus seems to be holding curl.
Here is the basecara – for reference, my favourite lash bases are Shiseido (old formula was just the bomb), Fasio (old formula again – doh) was so lengthening and…that’s it. Note how they are all old formulas!
This brush is curved and quite wide. See how it’s that white-grey colour? The brush is quite a nice shape and suits my eye curve however, it’s quite chunky and I imagine people with really short lashes wiil struggle with it.
The mascara brush is practically the same shape:
Then on to the testing!
The mascara, for the record, is very black and has a glossy, wet texture. It spreads easily too – it’s ok with curl, definitely one of the better ones I’ve tried at holding curl but not phenomenal.
Here is one coat of the volume mascara – not much volume!:
Using the mascara alone (one coat):
Curl hold is decent – we have like a 10% floppage but it doesn’t exactly open up my eyes perfectly either:
On the other eye I used the base coat and the mascara and got this:
The lashes look thicker, but damn – the clumping! The primer seems to hold curl at first but actually it just end up weighing them down and making the lashes really clumpy.
Also – this mascara is supposed to come off with warm water(like tubing mascaras) however this definitely did not come off with warm OR hot water. it was actually quite a pain to get off with my heavy duty eye make up remover. This is a big negative for me because there is nothing more annoying than having to spend ages getting lumps of mascara off your lashes.
Front view of base coat and top coat used together – premature flopping:
I like the packaging and the brushes on these mascaras. However, the mascara alone was not spectacular enough and the primer makes the finish worse! Therefore the mascara alone an ok buy but I wouldn’t bother with both products!
Are you tempted by any Etude House products?
