Eek. I warned about this back in Feb but I guess it is really going to happen now!
I got an email from The Bay today -
Consider it done.
Now sellers can’t leave negative Feedback in response to buyers’ Feedback.
Well…I can’t say they are entirely wrong. I have avoided leaving neutral or negative feedback at times because I wanted to avoid the conflict. To be honest, I can only think of once where a seller has been so utterly irritating and unhelpful that I would have had to have gone as far as leaving negative – most sellers are pretty helpful if you only ask.
There are the obvious dodgy sellers that deserve negative feedback, like the people who send you Abbibas trainers and Lipstick with the ends cut off but otherwise, 2000 transactions later, I haven’t really had that many bad experiences but then again, I have thick EBay skin.
I am more concerned about the dodgy buyers quite frankly.
I don’t know about othe EBay sellers but some people are a royal pain in the a**.
You know the type. As far as you know everything went smoothly then suddenly you get a negative or even WORSE a neutral and a moderately positive comment.
EVERYTHING WENT SMOOTHLY A++. Neutral.
People behave in strange ways when they purchase of EBay – some people think they are buying from Harrods (‘She sent it in a reused envelope and I don’t like it’), some people just lose all sense of manners because on the internet, people suddenly become very bold.
I got a funny complaint a while ago from a buyer who read the description and title wrong. She bought and begrudgingly paid for the item, even though if she had just emailed me I would have told her she didn’t need to pay – we all make idiotic mistakes sometimes.
Her rant was clearly a way of venting on the fact that SHE made the mistake, SHE was the moron.
It went something like
‘Why, why, why on earth, why why did you not make things even clearer in the description. I have paid but by god I didn’t want to.’
Sellers, have you ever thought to yourself, I cannot POSSIBLY make this listing any clearer that this. It cannot be made any clearer.
On top of all my listings I put:
PLEASE READ ALL OF THE DESCRIPTION AND SHIPPING CHARGES
SHIPPING CHARGES ARE NOT NEGOTIATED
DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU ARE HAPPY WITH THE TERMS
PLEASE ASK WITH ANY QUESTIONS BEFORE YOU BID
I have turned into one of those morons that rant and rave, acting like my listing is a gift to the world. I don’t think that. Its just that, even with that little disclaimer in bold, in luminious pink, I still get the inevitable -
‘Can you charge me less for shipping to Iran?’ – No
‘I decided to bid before you answered my question but can you send me blue instead of the pink one in the photo’ – No
‘This item is a fake’ – No it isn’t
‘Is this item new?’ – Yes it says so in the title, and in the description FOUR TIMES
‘I have bid but I cannot pay by paypal and I don’t get paid for four weeks so you will have to wait for a month for the money’ – Errrrrrr……..
Some buyers are deadbeat but I have encountered FAR MORE buyer morons than selling.
Since us sellers, who by the way run up some pretty terrifying Ebay listing, final value, paypal fees, can no longer leave negative I see a future of many many neutral feedbacks and a smattering of negatives, accompanied with comments like
‘It was all right’
Time to leave EBay or get some very thick skin.
I have no idea who this dude is but he looks proud to be working for EBay so he should be ashamed of himself.
