Creme De La Mer Haulage

I’m sure that the older we get, the less interesting our gifts get. I did get random goodies from La Mer, which is my newest obsession. Luckily, their range is limited and there aren’t any cosmetics apart from foundation and powder otherwise I’d be crying all the way to the bank.

La Mer is expensive. The counter is sparse and usually has a grumpy middle aged woman with terrible make up and fairly wrinkly skin on it

SA = “I use this stuff, I’m 40, look at my skin.”
Me = “Eeerrrrr. Cool.”

Once you buy something of course they love to kiss your ass. I suppose that’s the rules of the beauty counter.

I got the 30ml face cream – this comes in various textures, lotion, gel, but I got the cream original just because its the…well, original. £90:

The cream is very thick and smells like medicine:

You use the scoopy thing that comes with it, you only need a bit:

Warm it up untill it goes glossy:

Then cry a bit about spending so much money on something that contains Lanolin.

Still – I have been using this cream for about 2 weeks. It took a few days for my skin to get used to it because it is THICK and leaves a slightly greasy film on the skin, which I hate. However, my skin undoubtedly is looking smoother, more radiant, more glowy. So far so good, although it still annoys me applying such a thick cream in the day. I have been alternating and using Elemis Marine Cream, which is light and sinks in quickly when I am in a rush and my skin is all lovely and soft.

Ingredients:

Seaweed (Algae) Extract[, Mineral oil Glycerin, Isohexadecane, Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Extract, Microcrystalline Wax, Lanolin Alcohol, Sesame Seed Oil, Eucalyptus Oil, Magnesium Sulfate, Sesame Seed, Medicago sativa(alfalfa) seed powder, Helianthus Annuus (sunflower) Seedcake ,Prunus amygdulus dulcis(sweet almond) seed meal, Sodium Gluconate, Potassium Gluconate, Copper Gluconate, Calcium Gluconate, Magnesium Gluconate, Zinc Gluconate, Paraffin, Tocopheryl succinate, Niacin, Beta-carotene, Decyl oleate, Aluminium distearate, Octyldodecanol, Citric acid, Cyanocobalamin, Magnesium stearate, Panthenol, Limonene, Geraniol, Linalool, Hydroxycitronellal, Citronellol, Benzyl salicylate, Citral, Methylchloroisothiazolinone, Methylisothiazolinone, Alcohol Denat., Fragrance (Parfum)

The Eye Concentrate

DSCN9206_s.JPG

This stuff was about £120 – it comes with a silver ball applicator which is supposed to be made of silver.

They say:

The Eye Concentrate works in tandem with a specially-engineered, silver-tipped applicator which helps cool the skin, immediately facilitating micro-circulation. Rich in hematite, a naturally magnetic mineral known for its energies, with continuous use, The Eye Concentrate works over time to dramatically dissolve the appearance of dark circles and puffiness. The eye area appears healthy, more vital.

I have been using this for a week and I am noticing a firmer and much brighter eye area (I get dark circles). It is super expensive but you only need a bit of product. It sinks in quicky and smells a bit sea-like.

Not used it long enough to say if its truly worth it or not, but I like it very much out of all the eye creams I have tried so far; Lancome (too stingy), Philsophy (actually I like this one), Nars (moisturizing but no difference on dark circles), Dr Haushka, RMK, Clinique etc. etc. etc. This is my favourite but it should be for that price.

I also got the foundation and powder.

Originally the lady sold me bronze – she was….well orange. She was very insistent though – later on, at another La Mer Counter the women told me she would never had sold me bronze, before adding…”well every counter is different….”. The powder was damaged, I took it back, but bronze was out of stock, so I got transparent instead which is muchhhh nicer. It’s got small pearly particles in it and has a lovely airy texture.

I am a NC35 in MAC (I don’t even like MAC!) and this powder is really really nice, it’s soft, blends away nicely and has a slight glow. I can’t emphasize how much I like it and you get a huge jar for about £50.

I got the brush to go with the powder:

There are 2 clicks – the first click gives you a firmer brush feel:

Then finally if you push it all the way out you get a lighter airy feel:

DSCN9221_s.JPG

It’s quite a big brush but not impossible to carry round – but it’s not a hugely compact powder brush.

I got the foundation too – there’s cream and liquid. Apparently cream is best for oily skin and liquid is dewier and is better for dry. I got the cream one since I like a medium coverage anyway. Shade is Neutral:

Leave my chubby thumbs alone, they are pianists hands!

I also got the lip balm – it’s £35 which is steep!

DSCN9217_s.JPG

It’s a soft texture, nice and creamy, and has a slight tingle. It’s minty and seaweedy at the same time. So far so good!

DSCN9218_s.JPG

Is it worth it? Nah. There’s plenty of lip balm’s around but I do like the texture and I have a thing for the lid and the way Creme De La Mer is etched in it. Sad, I know.

I didn’t get any of it from eBay – I just don’t trust it since the creams are selling for around £70, £20 cheaper than retail but I’d rather not risk it coz you’ll never know.

This is my new routine for 2009! I should be looking younger and fresher soon with all these overpriced products right?!?!?!

What do you think? Would you buy La Mer?

  1. WOOOOOOO! Nice haul! I can shamefully say that I too have succumbed to the allure of La Mer. My last haul included the refining facial, CDLM gel cream, radiant infusion, eye concentrate, and oil absorbing emlusion (for T zone area). I really love the radiant infusion! You really gotta give that a try!

I would never buy La Mer on ebay. I’ve been tempted but after hearing all the news about fake La Mer, I just bought it from the counter to be safe.

It’s definately overpriced, but I’ll still use it since it does seem to be doing SOME good. Haha. How’s the creme foundation?? Coverage and finish wise? I’m debating whether or not I should get the Albion Exage Chiffon Compact foundation or the La Mer creme. What do you reccomend? Merry Christmas and HNY!!!

  2. Oh my gosh, they sound amazing but I would never spend that much on lotions! I hope they give you some free ones or something for blogging about it :) You should do a follow up post in a month or more and let us know the results – maybe with before and after pictures? Hahah idk!

  3. Hey Mable! Pretty cook haul huh! I am liking all the products so far, I will have to see how consistent it is though as its pricey. However I switch around a lot so if I found one amazing product I would stick to it.

Hmmmm you know, Albion exage and La Mer are two different things. La mer is soft, glowy, liquidy, dries nicely. Need a bit of powder to set it. Albion Exage is sooooooo nice. I have tons of powder foundations, tons, and many don’t work for my skin which can get oily but is also very dry in areas. I hate the crusted on powder look and Albion is creamy and gorgeous.

I say both! I love both.I am using La mer in the morning, and Albion for touch ups. Seriously, my two new loves :)

  4. Hi Ashley,

Yeah good idea Ashley I should take some photos to see if the results are that good. I paid for all the items! I know! I spent so much!

  5. please do let us know how they are working after a month or couple :) I desperately need a good eye cream!

  6. Hey Blu!

I will let you know! I might do a before picture now then a later one at the end of Jan!

  7. So luxurious! I want!!!!

I’m not in a position to splurge on La Mer yet since I’m still in uni but I have every intention to do so as soon I get my first paycheck hehe :D

Will you try the spf 18 fluid tint?

  8. Hi Sue!

I know very luxurious but I am going to be good this year! I have never tried the fluid tint though but can’t say! I love the foundation tho!

  9. Hi Rowena!! Your blog is lethal for my bank balance – I tried out the La Mer foundation and powder in HN last week and the lovely SA Dominque gave me a sample of the foundation and powder to try. I LOVE them – I’m definitely going to get them next time I’m Manchester.

    • Hey Zereen!

I never went to HN for my creme de la mer but I should ( I went to Kendals – scary orange lady and selfridges, also scary bronzed lady). Did you love it? I REALLY love it, the proof is in the pudding I think my skin glows in photographs :)

  10. Jenna Lynn says:

    Hi Row,

Thank you soo much for supplying so many photos. I felt lousy yesterday after getting a speeding ticket and, after sniffling into a tissue for a bit, I went on eBay and splurged on a tiny pot of La Mer from a seller with over 1,000 positive feedbacks.

After reading about so many fakes on eBay, I’m not sure I’d recommend this. I just received my tiny pot in the mail and it was so cold!! Obviously the parcel driver had left it sitting around for a bit in the truck : (

When I opened my tiny pot, I feared it was a fake because it looked so white. I’ve never used this before either so it’s hard to tell. But comparing my pot with your pics, the color and consistency look very similar so (hopefully) so far, so good.

I just brushed a bit on my skin and enjoy the consistency and feel. Soo I guess I’ll be using this for a small test run while I decide whether to purchase a bigger pot directly from La Mer.

    • Hey Jenna!

You are welcome. If you are unsure take your pot to a La Mer counter and ask them – the smell is quite distinctive for sure. Although I noticed some mean counters have empty jars out only so you can only try them once you have bought! (which is no good!). I am liking my La Mer a lot, although I am not sure if it will be uber greasy once it gets warmer…

  11. I’m so afraid i bought a fake from ebay, I live in a small town and there s no place to look, feel, and smell CDLM. Pics are great! they look exactly like the product i bought. Can i just ask you about the jar? Is there a glued down circular piece of white cardboard with film over it on the inside of the lid? If mines a fake it’s a really good knock off!! still I don’t want to be ripped off.
    Thanks a bunch
P.S i will only buy replacement from creme de la mer website, to risky

    • Hi Iamsowen,

Hmmm mine doesn’t have the circular piece but you can take it to the CDLM counter to see?

I LOVE this cream, I can’t help it, I just DO LOVE IT. Nearly ran out I will need a replacement soon and will be buying from the counter only!

  12. I purchased creme de la mer moisturising lotion from ebay and I think it is fake. Can anyone tell me if the lotion is highly perfumed and white. I am not convinced, I used la mer previously and I don’t think it is the same but it has been too long to remember exactly what it is like. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
