Crabtree & Evelyn Nail Lacquer in Avocado and Black Cherry Review and Swatches

When I think of Crabtree and Evelyn, my first thought is not nail polish…and colourful nail polish at that! And yet, this is what the brand has decided to release; a range of none toxic nail lacquers in 21 colours, from neutrals to brights to darks.  I don’t know why but I felt that the range looked promising; and it is indeed a very lovely range of polishes.

The Crabtree and Evelyn nail polishes have a fast drying formula and is formulated without toluene, formaldehyde, dibutyl phthalates and camphor – they fit in well to the ethos of the brand.

One thing I would expect if someone told me C&E had a range of nail polishes is that the colours would be boring and old fashioned; but this is totally not the case.

They’re not crazy wacky colours either, but it’s just a very nice looking range indeed.

There’s a good range of nudes and light pinks, as well as some striking brights like the orange and hot pink, as well as a classic true red and some deep rich on trend colours too.

I have two here to review, both very suitable for Autumn/Winter; Avocado and Black Cherry (many of the nail polishes have yummy food names!).

Black Cherry is a deep creme berry – it is in the same family as Chanel’s Rouge Noir and not my usual kind of colour, but this is really lovely on. One coat – more of an obvious berry:

A second coat really adds to the opacity and makes it into a blackened cherry:

I LOVE the formula of these polishes.  They are on the thinner side but this suits me perfectly; it makes the formula really easy to apply and I found it very smooth too.  I also did find that the formula dry quite quickly between coats; in a minute or so it was touch dry.

Avocado reminds me of Chanel Peridot – a golden green.  I actually couldn’t bring myself to buy Chanel’s nail polishes as they are quite expensive so these are a cheaper alternative!

Avocado is metallic but not in an ugly way (some metallics make my fingers look fatter then they already are). The gold pearl running through it is very pretty and not too much (I have tried Peridot and the gold is a bit much on me).

One coat of Avocado leaves it looking too thin in my opinion and you can see my nail underneath. Two coats leaves a really rich deep metallic green which I prefer (excuse any streaking, that is my impatient application and me not allowing the coats to dry properly before slapping more on! I was in a rush!):

I REALLY like these polishes; I just think the colours are spot on, elegant but fun, and also the formula is easy to apply and it has a sensible drying time.

The price is also great and they’re 3 free too.

These polishes cost £6 each from the official Crabtree & Evelyn website. I will definitely pick up some more colours soon!
