Because I am a complete dictator, and to avoid sad lipstick day, I asked my mum and auntie to each buy me a Tom Ford Lips & Boys Lipstick for Christmas. I got 55 Kingston and 42 Julian. Despite checking swatches, neither are 100% what I expected but I am pleased with them nonetheless….closer look….
So I believe that the Tom Ford and boys lipsticks are now permanent and they are a smaller version of the regular lipstick which is a fairly hefty looking thing. These do feel small but not small enough to fall in to ‘free sample’ territory, which is just as well as they are not cheap at £27 each (considering how tiny they are at 2g).
How does one pick two colours when there are 50 in the range!? Crazy right?
I decided to go for colours I don’t already have in this formula, and wearable colours rather than going for something out of character. I avoided anything too nude since it seemed pointless with a pricer formula. I ended up plumping for Kingston which is a cool toned purple hot pink and Julian which is a cool toned rose mauve. Both are COOL, I knew they would be then I felt a bit depressed looking at them wondering if they’d flatter my warm complexion.
The texture of these is similar to my other Tom Ford lipsticks, creamy, pigmented, smooth, very pleasing to use and a nice mix of pigmented and glossy. They all make my dry lips look good anyway.
When I swiped this I though uh-huh too cool for me. It’s almost a lavender on my NC35 skintone but actually, I like it. It’s a bit different to my usual warm toned nudes, it just looks a bit fresher and funkier. It gives me a chance to wear something different on my eyes rather than my usual warm golds and browns.
I wanted Kingston to be a true hot pink, a bit like NARS Schiap, but there’s a distinct blueness, purple-tone to it which makes it look a bit old school – it reminds me of a lipstick my mum used to wear all the time when I was a kid. Perhaps Justin, which looks like a cleaner hot pink should’ve been my choice…
No matter. I think despite it not being quite the tone I wanted it does look nice and still fulfils my bright lips in the day quota! Again the texture is just dreamy and it lasts well despite it’s creaminess.
Oh also – the packaging is smaller but still gorgeously chic.
I really really really like Tom Ford lipsticks mucho mucho, I just wish they weren’t so expensive but then, maybe that makes it a little bit more special.
Tom Ford and Boys is on sale here.
