Bite Beauty Lush Lip Tint in Tangelo Swatch & Review (Part 1)

Every time I visit London, I like to seek out some beauty brands that I can’t buy ‘oop north’ [that means UP NORTH for those of you who don't know]. I noticed some UK beauty bloggers talking about Selfridges Beauty Playground (Oxford Street) which has a number of niche products in a relaxed layout (it was cool by the way, but they need Air Conditioning. Bloody boiling in there!).

There I saw a small unassuming counter with BITE Beauty lip products!  BITE Beauty’s selling point is that it’s food grade (I licked the product once on my lips and I haven’t died yet and it tasted quite sweet, for the record) and contains reveratrol, an antioxidant found in red grapes.

I picked up 3 products. I might as well tell you now that I had a heart attack at the tills, because I thought they were about £18 each and they are £24 for the high pigment lip pencils and £23 for the lip tint. I did my best to hide my true feelings.

Anyway, here is the pretty lippy!

Packing I like, it looks and feels substantial. The lipstick itself I also like, it has a matte black feel but not as annoying as Nars rubbery catch-all-the-fluff products.

Bite Beauty Lush Lip Tint in Tangelo Swatch Review

I have a massive soft spot for lipsticks with a hydrating core, as when I was little my mama used to use them all the time!  This one is particularly cute, as it is in a letter ‘B’ for Badass:

There were limited options left in Selfridges and I couldn’t get anyone to assist me so I just had to swatch on my hand and decide that way.  They felt quite smooth and slick – I decided against my boring nudes, and go for a pop of colour, choosing Tangelo, a sheer orange.

How do I feel about this rather pricy lip tint. Well…

Ok it has ‘tint-y’ qualities. It isn’t what I would call a full on lip tint, in that, I expect from a moisturising core-d lipstick, a really glossy, sheer, lush finish.  I found this surprisingly dry and akin to a regular lipstick as opposed to one with magical hydrating powers.

Then on the other hand it is quite pigmented…it has the pigment I like but not the gloss or ‘softness’.  Texture is not quite a tint in my opinion, and although it feels nice on the lips I don’t feel like it’s any more hydrating than any medium creamy lipstick.

Swatch:

Whilst it doesn’t fulfil my tint dreams, it sure is a pretty shade – a wearable tangerine that makes the lips look very healthy. I do think it’s uber cute with the B core and it’s a shade I will use a lot in the spring and summer as I love orange tones.

Verdict:

Is this worth it?

Well, there are many things I like about it, the packaging, the feel of the brand, the product itself is very nice, I just don’t think it’s what I want from a ‘lip tint’ which should be sheerer, juicer, a bit less serious than this.  I don’t regret buying it though, the shade is very me and this is the perfect product for someone who wants to try BITE but doesn’t want to go full on pigment (see next post coming up!).

Price: £24 – purchased from Selfridges.

In the US they sell this brand on Sephora and this product for $24!!! Taking the p–s much with the UK pricing? Sigh.

  1. I had one of these… but it melted from being in my car this summer. I liked it a lot–for many of the same reasons you did. It’s not perfect, but as far as lip tint products go, I felt that it was one of the best ones I’ve tried.
