Barry M’s Pink Flamingo Nail Polish did THIS to me….

I have gotten into nail polish lately – not that I have a choice, since my nails were badly stained by Barry M’s Nail Polish in Pink Flamingo!

I love that nail polish – the colour is gorgeous! But it stained my names so bad – I have never had this before:

Ewwww! I used my favourite base coat underneath, CND’s Stickey so I can’t understand how this happened other than that there is some stellar pigment in Pink Flamingo.

I’ve been going over it with other colours to stop myself looking like a smoker. Yak.

Any tips for getting rid of yellow nails?

Usually when the ends of my nails get yellowed I just take few slices of fresh lemon (not lime) and scratch them with my nails. Few minutes to wait before washing hands and make it every day during the week )))

  2. I’ve had the same problem with the only two Barry M nail polishes that I used and I had on a clear base coat as well! What I did to reduce the yellowness was soak them in warm water and lemon juice for a while which takes away a bit of the staining. Then I used baking soda (or you can use a whitening toothpaste) and scrubbed them with an old toothbrush. They did look better afterwards, but I had to wait for a long long time till the nail bed was completely yellow-free.

  3. I’ve been wearing Barry M Pink Flamingo with a cheap base coat from L’oreal a lot lately but I never had this problem. I’m sorry that happened to you. But when my nails get yellow I use lemon juice too.

  4. I find only the more opaque bases prevent staining from very pigmented varnishes. Ive never had a problem with Nails Inc A&E and i wear lots of intense and dark varnishes.

    • Hi Kristen

I used CND which is a fairly thin base :o/ this is the first time this kind of thing has happened to me!

  5. A drop of bleach in about a tablespoon of warm water, apply with a cotton ball and of not soak nails, also whitening strips for teeth on fingernails and always ALWAYS apply a clear base coat to prevent this again.

    • Ahhh see I did prime! And this still happened :(

I can’t bear the smell of bleach but I’ll see what I can do? I have some strips!

In addition – my manicure lady said once that the intense of nail reaction to the nail polishes depends on your own biological cycle. So one day you can get yellow nails after pinky natural polish and next day you’ll get normal nails after bright red polish…

  7. Us Lemon juice and a whitening toothpaste mixture…and brush it on and let it work. Should whiten your nails.

  8. Hi, I know this is really old, but for me what works to prevent yellowing is to use a ridgefiller-type base coat that’s totally opaque. I use 2 coats of it as well. Orly makes a “protective” one with some kind of fibers in it, which is opaque and I find it works for me, but really any 3 or 5 free opaque ridgefiller ought to do it, then use 3 or 5 free polish on top. Of course this takes forever though:)
