I admit, bareMinerals is not a counter I stop at regularly, but then again there aren’t that many counters near me and as its a range like Bobbi Brown that has such a wide selection of colours I like to be able to see the products for myself in person to get a perfect match.
I recently tried the Complexion Rescue which is a tinted moisturiser gel type product which is really really wonderful as a hydrating every day base. I have been using it every day so far because it’s quite effortless. I wanted to know how to add an extra finish to the base (which leaves a glowy dewy look) if I wanted it, to help it last longer and to give a more polished look when required.
Step in the classic bareMinerals Ready SPF20 Compact Powder Foundation (£26) and the Precision Retractable Face Brush (£19).
I have shade R330 which I thought looked too dark in the pan but is perfect on the skin for my NC35 skintone (I use Ginger in the Complexion Rescue).
So, you know bareMinerals is famous for their original loose powder mineral foundation. This READY compact is as the name suggests, a compact pressed version of the loose foundation. I do prefer this because it is tidier and can be carried around easily, I always some how make a mess where loose powder is involved especially as I have the kids in the morning ready to distract me!
The Retractable Face Brush is small and unassuming, however it is full size once opened, and is a medium density buffing brush with super soft bristles and an angled finish. I dipped this directly in to the powder and buffed it on the the skin – I loved the finish it gave. I like compact brushes for travel with lids so they don’t go everywhere and I see no reason why this can’t be used with other bases.
The powder is super super soft and creamy almost – it’s also quite high in pigment and offers good coverage for a powder base without looking to dry (although my preferred way of using it is as a finishing powder, or with a liquid of some sort like MAC Fix+ or Jane Iredale Mineral spray which seems to really help make the powder stick and blend).
The powder is so soft that you have to be careful not to swish the brush around too much or lots of powder comes off so just dab it gently, it WILL pick up enough product.
Here is the base on my skin with a bit of the complexion rescue underneath. For the sake of a minute – that it all it takes for me to apply this powder foundation, I get a more long lasting and polished finish with a soft glow. It does not look cakey or overly dry at all as you can see, there’s still quite a bit of shine left from my highlighter:
I am really liking the bareMinerals base products I have tried recently, I also have some of the concealers in my collection and I think highly of those too. I would definitely go to the counter to get matched as the shade selection is so big it’s worth getting the right one. The packaging is simple – it’s no fuss in that sense – but when it comes to base make up it’s what it can do that counts!
