The lip balm fiend that I am, I can’t help but purchase more even when I have one balm in every nook and cranny of my house.

Carmex, first introduced in 1937 is the classic tingly lip balm is one of my favourites, and I favour the classic one in the tub the most – I like the tingle and medicinal smell.

These days there’s so many variations on the theme; Original, Cherry, Moisture Plus – it comes in a tub, in a tube, in a stick. I prefer the tube version the most as I like soft gooey balms over hard ones, and I prefer to keep my fingers out of it (if you know what I mean!).

Ooh it’s Carmex Strawberry in a tube!

When this first arrived, my first thought was, if this came with SPF it would be perfect.

Duh Rowena! It does come with SPF 15!

I love the idea of strawberry but then I had to ask – would that medicinal scent and flavour work with strawberry? I don’t know about you, but when I was a kid, after I had a gobful of medicine I would follow it with a boiled sweet to get rid of the taste…

Thankfully, this one tastes fine. Not that I’ve been eating it but…well, you know what I mean. It smells fine.

The strawberry scent is quite strong, then the medicinal smell – and yes you still get the tingle. Thankfully, it doesn’t turn into some insipid strawberry only lip balm.

Carmex contains menthol (apparently kills germs and promotes healing) and Octinoxate and Oxybenzone as sunscreen agents.

The balm isn’t tinted, it’s just clear. Do I like it? Yes I do! I like Carmex anyway, as far as drugstore lip balms go, and it’s a nice change to have the strawberry flavour to it. I think they should do mango next. Yes?!
