Tired of Christmas Shopping and need a little pick up treat for yourself? Well starting from tomorrow (Wednesday 9th December), Cosmetic Candy will be giving away a pair of Nicky Clarke Hair Straighteners for the next 5 days:
“Doing your bit for charity and ensuring you look your best are not usually two tasks that come hand in hand. However, celebrity hair stylist Nicky Clarke has set out to change this with the launch of a limited edition ceramic straightening iron.
The Love Women Ceramic straightener provides expert styling, whilst raising awareness of Ovarian Cancer – with 10% of the cost of each pair sold going directly to the charity.
Each pair is branded with the Ovarian Cancer Action Charity logo and Nicky is hoping the straighteners will help to raise awareness of the disease and its symptoms.
Designed using the latest ceramic heating technology, the Love Women ceramic straighter is also an advanced styling tool –with rounded edges to straighten and curl, the straighteners also have variable temperature for different hair types and floating ceramic plates which glide perfectly through the hair without snagging.
I have previously reviewed some Nicky Clarke DesiRED straighteners and was very impressed by how ‘glidey’ it was.
Realistically, Ovarian Cancer is one of the female cancers that scares me because it can be so difficult to detect. With Breast Cancer we have feel for lumps and look for changes. With Cervical Cancer, we can go for smear tests (or you should be going, tut tut).
Even though Ovarian Cancer is most common in women over 50, this doesn’t mean that it doesn’t occur in younger women too.
Symptoms can include:
- Stomach Pain
- Bloated Feeling
- Loss of appetite
- Unexplained weight gain
- Swelling of your abdomen (tummy)
- Pain during sex
- Changes in bowel or bladder habits, or constipation, excess wind, diarrhoea or needing to pass urine more often
- Rarely, abnormal vaginal bleeding
Needless to say a lot of the above symptoms can easily be diagnosed as something else.
In the UK, around 6,800 women are diagnosed with the disease every year and its the FIFTH most common cancer in women.
This is an excellent information page from Bupa if you want to know more (but please, don’t have nightmares!).
If you are concerned about anything, visit your doctor.
So if you are ready to win a pair, tune back tomorrow for 5 chances to win. The competition is open internationally (straighteners are dual voltage but you may need an adaptor plug).
